I have not yet built a traditional hot rod, but this ride has inspired me more than most others.
Experts on here could you please look at this and help to identify its parts and whats been done?
It looks like a 30' body?
    32' rad shell?
Obvious chop and channel on bags, suicide front end?
I will not be using a sbc.

Just 'cos it's black doesn't make it a rat rod! Looks like a lot of work in it.

yeah, 30-31 body 32 shell. stock beam hung off split bones. hard to see a whole lot. but looks like home built a type frame, artillery wheels. juice brakes. headlights look like the ones you order from speedway. maybe 4-5" chop. and looks like suicide doors.

I wouldn't say that. Maybe they went a little overboard on the chop and channel but there were plenty of people doing that for the stip back in the day. And yeah it would look nice shiny but who's got the money? I cant really add anything more productive than that. Just thought I'd come to the defence.
P.S. Just my opinion but I think those pipes look pretty dumb. To each his own though!

This irritates the hell out of me! When someone throws out that term, it makes me think they don't know anything about hot rods! The truck in question here looks like a very nice, clean, SAFE build from the pics shown. Not a scabbed together pile of **** that would earn the term. To the OP, I can't offer any info on this ride, but you have good taste in vehicles my friend!

Actually, he's rather smart...........two simple words and he's got all of you worked up and in a lather.:D

I like it, but the bed does seem crooked or it's the picture angles, the rear tires are a bit fluffy for that rim width and I'm not a fan of suicide fronts. Overall it's nicely done.

Man, How can someone call that a Rat Rod? That is a really nice truck..Looks to me like it has alot of time, money, thought, and work put into it. Judging by the other parts on it and the look of the rest of it. I would guess that the owner could have painted it shiny but didn't want to. Many things in my opinion look good not being shiny...nice looking hotrod if you ask me.

    It's not a 30' body. It's much shorter.
    It is a '30 body.

I agree, one thing when I saw the truck in person that actually looked unsafe as the bead looked like it wanted to unseat.

Outside of the too wide for the tires rear wheels and maybe the issue with the bed it is one pretty slick little truck. I don't think I could even sit upright in it and drive it but I'd bet that my 4'10" wife would have a ball driving it. I hope the hell that just having flat paint doesn't make a vehicle one of those rat things or I'm in deep trouble.

If you are interested in building a traditional hot rod and you live in Santa Rosa, why don't you go to Ryan's "mecca" of hot rods, Tardel Ranch.

Hell it sounds like Ryan is there all week getting his own lesson in tradtional hot rodding.

A lot of good stuff to see out there, and you are may be 15 minutes away.

As far as the truck, traditionally I like to be more comfortable than that truck.

It may look cool, but I drove a truck like that from Santa Rosa to Paso, about 4 1/2 hours, and it it not very roomy in those trucks even before the chop or channel, it is not comfortable.

But a lot of people will sacrafice comfort for looking cool.

Either way, good luck and I am glad to hear something has inspired you to build something.

It is either a '30 or '31. Not a late '31 as the fire wall is not indented on the p***enger side.

One word of caution. There is not much room in those cabs. A heavy chop and channel will really tighten it up.
