I love reading the project threads people post with the cool names and following their progress. Thought I would finally post one of my own. Just to give a little background I have built a few customs and have always wanted to build a hot rod. So finally after hitting the Pileup with my 52 Chevy I thought it was time to build one. As I said Ive never built a hot rod so take it easy on me with the critisism. I found the the car in Escanaba Michigan which is 2 hours north of the Mackinaw Bridge in the upper pennisula. I purchased the car with a running flathead, a dis***embled 4 cyl., all the fenders, 2 grills, 3 radiators, more wheels than I know what to do with and a TON of other parts. We looked like the beverely hillbillys driving it home. My plans for the car is a clean open wheeled, chopped and channeled hot rod. I started working on the car Oct 20 and have already made some good progress on the car. Here are the pictures of my progress thus far and will update as I go from here on out..
Congrats and good start. Drove my 29 Sedan out of the shop today for teh first time in 4 1/2 years, what a feeling.
Here are some pictures of the ch***is. I opted to build my own rather than using the stock frame that came with the car. I used 2x4 1/8 wall tubing for the rails. The front is z'd 4 inches, I used as 27" reverse eye spring from speedway motors. I had some of the parts for the front and what I didnt have my buddies did so since I am cheap I opted to do a suicide front end. In the rear I z'd the frame 16", not quite sure what spring it is, I built my own ladder bars and all that good stuff.
Sat the body on the ch***is. I set the ride height up so that the frame is 4 inches of off the ground. The body is channeled so that the body is even with the bottom of the frame. Fabbed up some motor mounts andgot that in so I could cut out what I needed to on the firewall. I am using a late model T5 trans out of S10. I know that speedway make an adapter for this but I am cheap so I opted to make my own on the CNC at work. I used a bellhousing out a 50's Ford car so the adapter is pretty small. I will take some more detailed pictures of that when I dis***emble. I got most of the 1x1 floor structure done and hope to start the sheet metal here in the next couple days. Still have to build the trans mount first. Thats it for today..
[/ QUOTE] superrrrrr
HotRod33 "I'll watch I want to see how it sits with that much kickup in the rear of the frame..........." I set the rear end up for a 750/16 and a pretty low ride height. I will admit I could have came down 2-3 inches with the Z as you can see in the pic above. As far as a stance goes this is what I am after. I know its a little low for some of you but I like them low, that is evident in my 52 chevy..
Ok, fenderless A sedan with a late flathead, I'm following this one for sure. I'm planning on having the highboy look on mine but I'm always looking for good ideas.
Start the sheetmetal on the floor yesterday, I will be sure to take some pics after todays progress and get them up tonight.
It won't sit to low for me here is a frame that I am working on for a 34 pickup that has 15 inch kickup in the rear and 6 inches in the front... HR33
Little update. Just been working on the floor, finished up the toe boards today. Will have to get some pictures of that yet. Slowly but surely...
Couple more little updates.. I cut down and mounted the grill sheel. Installed some front shocks and made some headlight mounts. Kinda starting to look like something. Should have some rims and tires here soon so I can sit the car on its own weight.
