Thought I would share this video with you guys. Can anyone identify the manufactorer of this trailer, as it's not a kit or homemade trailer, but a factory built unit.. Would anyone else care to share pics of original teardrop or camper trailers? http://www.youtube.com/user/BillyBobAndCompany?feature=mhum#p/u/1/2df7Q1hv9gk My dad bought this tear drop trailer about 27 years ago, and stored it in the barn, and it was pretty much forgotten about.. We're not going to restore it, just do some touching up, and pull it behind the 1951 Kaiser.. We're not going to restoere the car either, just make the local car shows as is, and actually go camping in it.. We'll start driving the Kaiser regularly, now that we rebuilt the brakes.. My dad is calling this a 1946 model, but it actually looks exactly like a 1936 teardrop trailer we saw on-line the other day.. There are no I.D. tags or anything to tell who or when it was built.. It is definately not a kit trailer, but a factory trailer, as the roof is factory riveted, and kit trailers are not done this way.. Plus you can tell by the cabinets, shelves, etc., that it is all vintage correct.
It looks like it is a homebuilt. There were quite a few people riveting their campers together after the war. People that had worked the aircraft industry. This site has some good pics of the major manufacturers of the day. http://www.nicksteardrop.com/photos.htm Also, compare it to the home built on this page http://www.socalteardrops.com/Adobe PDF Files/MechanixIllustratedTeardrop.pdf
I have one I had to investigate as well. I found this site to be very helpful http://pages.prodigy.net/rfs2growup/home.htm good luck!
What's your definition of original? I built mine without the use of plans or a kit, so I consider it original
I have included some pictures of my 1947 Kit Kamper. I have been heavily involved with teardrops for several years but have never seen a manufactured trailer quite like yours. I think it was a homebuilt even though it is riveted. What kind of suspension does it have? I have also never seen a manufactured teardrop with suicide doors or hatch hinges like yours. Jerome
I'm jealous of the camper. And in the video they have a pet ra**** walking around. Also loved the fact you took Momma for a ride.
yeah, mine is not old by standards... I found the link above when I was searching for the history on it. I have since shortened the neck so it doesn't look so weird...
