Yes, I know it's a Frequently asked topic-the disc brake conversion. I've hit a bit of a snag. I'm wanting power discs up front(in my 53 Mercury). After asking, and a bit of research, I decided on going with a kit from MP Brakes. Here's the snag-I called MP Brakes today, and they no longer make a kit for my application. So I'm back to square one. Any ideas on any other sources? I'm having plenty of luck finding kits for '54 and up, it seems the 52-53's are the ******* stepchild of the disc brake world. Thanks as always, Bryan
http://www.ecihotrodbrakes.com/early_ford_discbrake_conversions.html they show 52-3 merc, give them a call
give Fatman fab a call as well... they have a ****load of stuff they sell that aint on the web or even in the catalog. i spent a half hour on the phone with one of thier sales and tech guys in december asking about steering and brake stuff for my '54 and the guy actually told me how to do a lot of the things i wanted to do that they sell "kits" for using napa parts and some simple fab on my own... gave me a list of sources for parts on my car, and sent me the catalog with names and addy's of other fab shops that spe******ed in my vehicle... i could spend my cash in a lot of places, but after the treatment i got there, i'd go out of my way to get it from them if i needed something...
ECI lists 52-53 Mercury disc brake kits http://www.ecihotrodbrakes.com/early_ford_discbrake_conversions.html
I know what you mean about ******* stepchild cars when it comes to disc brakes, try finding a kit for a 58 pontiac. Any help on this project?
Mpbrakes has a kit for 59-64 Catalina/Bonneville in their catalog. I suppose you'll have to call them first and see if they still make it. I'm about ready to get on the horn with Fatman, their webpage says that they enjoy the challenge of uncommon applications.....maybe they could help, too.
I phoned Fatman's place this morning about a disk brake kit for my f1 truck, they sent me to ECI give these guys a look thru http://www.ch***isengineeringinc.com I don't know if they got what you want but its another place to browse around
Does anyone know of a place that has kits for early 50's Plymouths? MP stopped making them and everyone else is charging $175+ for a steel plate and some bolts. I'm having a hard time determining what parts Tex Smith used for his conversion.
I dont know if the Merc is the same as the 49-54 Ford Spindle, if it is the 49-54 kit will work. I just made a Wilwood kit for this application. http://www.hotrodsusa.com/store/brakesfmc.html this might or might not be what you are looking for. dso
