So for some reason, i really enjoy the work that goes into channeling a car. Maybe im weird, but what ever. So iv been tinkering on my 47' Plymouth sedan lately, and im just not happy with it. I dont know why. Its just too stock?

So i was lookin at it, and that voice in my head says "CHANNEL IT"

so i want your guys opinions on this.

Channel, or not to channel. Most cars iv built have 10 inch channel jobs. I was thinkin like 6 or 8 for this one.

    Opinions???

yes it needs "something"; a chop, channel, section, lower, or cut into a convertible. something... anything... just start cutting.

Sorry, I just don't get the "channeling thing"!
Yeah, I understand it on a 30's car, where the body sits SO high above the frame, that it's a simple way to lower it without any suspension problems.
But after the late 30's, the car bodies are almost even with the bottom of the frame, so why go through the trouble...esp. since the later cars are more complex.
Why place the body, which is more prone to damage, at a point lower than the frame, which is relatively strong, and can take abuse?
A simple lowering job achieves the same look, albeit, with a bit of a comprimise in ride quality. My 55 Olds has been driven all over the country, with almost 180,000 miles on it. Lots of s****es to the frame, but only a couple little dings in the lower body. If it was channeled, the bottom would be ruined!
Can anyone explain the attraction to channeling...do most even know what it is???!!!!!

Everyone is saying channel it because they don't have to do the work:)

What advantage is it going to get you? Are you going to make all the body mounts, floor, relocate pedals, column, and move just about everything on the car to get it down another 6"...?

All of this extra work on a car where all of this is hidden from the factory?

Why can't you just do the suspension mods, rework the frame a bit if needed and that will get it down plenty low.

  18. X2 I almost always hate channeled cars... Lower it and spend your time, money, energy somewhere else...

Why? What channel is it on now? Not getting good reception or something???

Sorry just couldn't leave it be...

I'm for the lowering myself, but I kinda like that body style...big and fat like me...
