I have been watching the board for the past few weeks and notice less and less topics about actually building (tinkering) or driving an old car or are you just here to be part of the scene (or just like old cars) and maybe hope to have one some day (NOTE: thats fine also, not everyone is in a place in their life where they can have one.._ It just seems the quality (not quan***y) of posts are dropping (ya I am *****ing about it...)

I am driving and building at the moment (and looking for new and better ways to fabricate or accomplish something)...

Spend the weekend working on fabbing the floor boards, installing the motor/****** so I could finalize the firewall I moved back and started on the ****** cover/tunnel...

So lets hear it, what category do you fall into...

    i agree boones.

me - working, fixing, building... in that order, but with an emphasis on working and fixing.

this is my first weekend in a few months, got exhaust hooked up and ****** x-member in... just need to hook-up e-brake, put plug wires back on and see what else i broke... but i prefer to drive it rather than break more ****. :)

Building and driving.... Drive my truck everyday... been working on my roadster, Buick, and He****... (roadster update in another thread)... I've got a few things I need to fix on my truck, and once my Buick is promoted to daily driver the truck is getting an update... The roadster will make the HAMB drags and possibly Bonneville...

I've noticed the same thing. the only post I've enjoyed in the past week was O/T about cafe racers. I feel so guilty.
I'm been wanting to be building. I had to leave the beast behind while I'm in an apartment. Boones, I'm willing and able to help any time you need. It would help fill the void that leaving my car has left.
I have been riding, it is an antique bike also so that should count for something.

I am a newer member of the HAMB. I am currently working on a 1930 roadster, under a 28 A frame. I have learned more from the posts here and the research available on this site, than any of the ****s(!) I have tried to ask at our local shops. (no names, but lets just say... there are some very big name shops in and around PHX. I have stopped at most of them to shop, but I usually ask questions first. Most of these clowns, "just don't have the time today." Well I make good money and am not looking for a hand out, and you just lost my business! I feel very lucky to be a small part of a big community of "Hot Rodder's" that do have the time... and know how. With all of your help I have moved through my project fast, and am going to try and finish this one to build another in the coming weeks. I will try and sell my car on here first, and I will try and buy my next (model A coupe this time) car on here first. Thank you to everyone who plays along. And although some of the original posts ****... the answers are teaching some of us newer guys some of the silly thigs you guys know already. Thanks again... Tony

Just trying to piss me off? Just seems kind of rude man... Posting an old header, talking about how you miss the old HAMB, etc... after I've busted my *** on the new one. Let's not forget something - the HAMB is owned and operated by me. Not some company with no feelings and lots of advertisers paying the bills. For all intents and purposes, the HAMB is my private garage...

And nothing bothers me more than these kinds of posts. What good do they do? Certainly doesn't improve the post count or quality... Why don't you post something of value yourself instead of bringing down the board even further?

I'm all about opinions on the HAMB. I think it's healthy... and that's why I didn't close or delete this thread... BUT, I can have an opinion too... And I think this is a bunch of ********.

My thoughts on the subject..... folks that are building stuff need to post tech/build progress stuff and those that appreciate these types of posts need to make reply posts thanking them for posting.

And if the ******** posts aren't replied to they will drop off faster then the "on topic" posts, therefore cleaning up the board a bit and demonstrating to the newbies how things should work. ;)

After I wrote this note, I got to thinking that its not really adding to the quality of the board... but I really want to know what the guys and gals that have less then 500 post think (those that have over have been here awhile and I suspect are buidling and driving)... They do not seem to be contributing to the greatness of the HAMB as much as I would think they would..

I guess its frustrating when you post a how to, or a tech question or even an update on your project and you see maybe one or two responses (unless you are one of the long standing members like Nads who request for help got alot of feedback)..

Ok, I will shut up now and watch what happens

I just got a call about Ryans message so I went back and looked at it (as I wrote the reply above without reading what others had wrote so far)

Ryan, sorry you dont care for this post (as I said above, I realize its not of value... but I was hoping to get the newer members more involved and part of the board... I think it is needed...

Ryan, which post bugs you, Boones or Choprods?

Clarify... cause I think it was choprods... Boones was fine?

HRLC... why? then you have to justify to a buncha keyboard rodders that what you did was "safe" or "right"...

That sounded bad. I didn't say that to start ****... I just think more people should look into whos posting what before they question peoples building abilities.

My post was directed towards anyone that would post or reply to such a post... Your time is better spent out in the garage or posting on-topic stuff...

Questioning how or why things are done is how we all learn. Maybe the person just needs alittle more clarification. Maybe they just didn't ask the question the right way. Sometimes people don't think before the post a question/statement. I know your not directing your comment to me personally, just a general statement by you for something that has perhaps happened in the past.

In my Big Olds update posts I'm not looking for acceptance nor am I justifying how or why things are being done. My hope is just that someone might learn a new technique or get an idea from how Big Olds is going together.

Myself, I enjoy the update posts from folks and try to read them all and make a positive comment.

  17. on another forum i go to they have a saying "If you think the post quality is declining, you need to step away from the computer"

I enjoy the HAMB more if I'm not on it everyday. That way you can look at all the new posts and find something that you like. My opinion.

    Boones -

I'm building ('31 Chevy RPU - done with a '60s flavor and a race car look) - but I'm still in the early stages. I have gathered most of the major components I want to use, but many of them are in need of some TLC before they're ready to fit together as a car.

I spent several hours yesterday "m***aging" my '65 Pontiac rear end ***embly - dismantling the brakes, pulling the axles so I can replace the bearings and seals, and cutting off the spring perches and other stock suspension weldments I won't be using. While important to my particular build, none of that activity seemed to warrant a post here. I think most all this gang already knows how to skin knuckles and cuss. - LOL

I've been taking photos all along the "clean-up-and-get-stuff-ready" process, and should have some interesting items to share over the next few months (for example: a fairly unique suspension system based on Chevy II monoleaf springs, some body patching and bracing to be done using a spot welder, a torsion bar front suspension setup that I think will be a bit unusual, and a 292 C.I. Chevy inline six build-up. I'm also building the frame from scratch, with an eye toward ease of building for someone who's never done that task before. I've attached a sketch of what I hope to end up with - except yellow instead of black),

Meanwhile, I'm "watching" what goes on here as much as possible to glean whatever gems of knowledge (and there have been plenty) might show up.

There's no question this place harbors it's share of posers, and just plain ********ters too, but sometimes they can be fun. In my mind, the social aspect of this place sort of gives it some extra depth - and with the new "thumbnail" feature it's pretty easy to quickly check out (and p*** by) the OT stuff, rants, etc.

Me I am pretty new (July last year). I have posted on a few B/S posts but mostly to drop off a smart *** remark or two.

I have learned quite a bit here aquired quite a few pieces starting with a ol T-body (Thanks again Spooky) which is a starting point.

Plans?? well, Taking said body and building a Modified powered with a Blown slant 6 Traditional no but different yes. BTW the six was Free. and planning a T5 for the ******.

Taking and building my own frame using 2x4 Box and much info gathered from here. Cowl steering with a BMW box like Harrison did. I have a 40 beam axle for the front and pondering 1/4 elliptic (another idea from here)

Currently?? I am in the middle of taking a 6-53 roots blower and making it work. This is quite a head scratcher since there is nobody working these over to Hi RPM gas engines. Why a 6-53 and not a Eaton? Well it looks kinda trad and it was cheap. No Uncle Scooby My latham ain't for this project.

I have aquired an aluminum intake that I am planning on modifying (In transit) for this blower install and going to run 3 duece for carbs.

Right now I have a pile of parts. and still gathering. And someday will be able to post a picture or two when I figure out the digital camera thing.

I would like to post some tech stuff but right now I am not at the point where I have finished anything enough to post. I build on one piece until I need parts and then move on to another. Eventually I will have a Whole.

Ryan This place is great and you ever get to Alaska look me up and I will buy you a beer or two.

I think Boones posted this as a personal jab at me cause he knows my hot rod is still blown the hell up.

After the building, there comes driving..which some times leads to the BLOWING **** UP, which ultamately, leads to the watching...

But fear not! There will be more building, which will lead to more driving and HOPEFULLY less blowing **** up and therefore...less watching.

Building, driving or watching, I'll see you at the Drags. -Abone.

You asked. I lost a small house and a 30X50 3 stall 14 shop w/ a floor hoist and 3 phase hook-up w/ a industrial air compressor to a family dispute. So Iv'e been WATCHING till the snow clear's the garageport. Watching and learning about people here 'cause I've got no one in these part's that understand this lifestyle, the older one's quit, or taken up other hobbie's. Skill's that are wasting, waiting for the weather to clear. Frustrated? 44 and starting over, again......

Well, I tore the whole front end off a 67 GTO this weekend and removed the engine and trans. My back is killing me but I have this great feeling of satisfaction. ;-) That first beer tasted awesome.

As far as old school, nothing yet. But, I'm gonna by next year for sure. Almost **** when I saw 60's style coupe go up for sale. I snoozed and I lost it. Still bummed, but something else will come around. I just have to be patient.

No disrespect to Ryan or the amount of work he has put into the new site. I don't spend as much time here as I used to. I still check in daily but after scanning through the first few pages of new subjects, I see not very many subjects I even want to open and check out. I don't think it is some big indicator of anything, just the little swings that the board seems to take.

I don't think any of this was directed to Ryan. No one person, including Ryan has any major control of the content. It's a bit here and there from all of us. I just think Boones was just making an observation that clearly some of us agree with. I think this is an on topic post that will hopefully help prod the collective group to give a little more. This forum is like anything else involving cooperation from a group, momentum keeps it going. When it slows it will keep slowing. I hope things pick up. I have learned alot here and look forward to learning more.

I bought a 59ab and ****** this week, gonna try to build one of those thingma jiggers with a 4" crank, to replace the 59ab that is currently in my 46 Mercury. Went to the Decatur swap meet Fri and Sat, bought a very nice face for the original radio, and a nice grill for my 69 C10. The 46 goes in the shop this week, it will be dis***embled, and re-***embled with all new rubber seals, and and welt, some very minor body work, and painted. I had intended to run a Chrysler stainless 3 bar grill installed as a floating grill and was going to tunnel some Dodge Wagon tail lights into the sides of the rear fenders. I changed my mind, and it will run original grill and tail lights, and all body moldings, it will have 12V spot lights, bubbled tear drop skirts, possibly a sun visor, original steelies, and 50's Cad hub caps. Some time in the future (when I come up with the money) I plan to have the interior done in R & P. Yes this is the coupe that I tried trading to some of you guys. I want it painted sort of a metallic root beer color.

    boones,
you know what i've been doing. this weekend was spent on my brand new 37 chevy pickup project, bought a bunch of sheet metal and some tubing, went to work on bracing (with some help from abone) so now i can start making patch panels and have some floor again. i'd post more about it but without a way to post pictures it wouldn't seem very interesting and i don't think that anything that i am doing at this point in time can be learned from or is new and imaginative, its just plain old get some foundation for a hot rod work. i do know what you mean though, i drive more than i work, and i work more than i watch and i hardly ever post. just seems that lately me personally i haven't had a whole bunch of interesting bits and peices to post about (well maybe abone continually blowing up his model a).

    Zor

I NEED SOME V8 FOR MY NEW PROJECT, PM ME IF YA GOT SOMETHING.

  29. im not a newby here, hell i joined a few days before denise, or hotrodladycruizer. i have always listened more than i talk, ****, i just broke 400 posts.
a year or even 2 ago this board was dominated by guys who had game, who walked the walk. and they would talk to each other all 3 grand of em, AND we had one hell of a newby filter (GERM) who kept most of the posts clear of ****. and newbys to a minimum.
now that this is the most popular board on the net, even being recomended in volkswagon trends? jees.
its like this cool***ed oyster bar that used to be down on the coast, cold oysters, cold beer, good music and a nice little beach break just outside the back door. when all the tourist found it they ruined it for a few years, untill the locals took it back.
germ was not a god or even a worthy role model but he did do a huge service.
maybe i should have kept my mouth shut, ppffff maybe not, just my opinion.

    love 40oz.

  30. Sounds like great fun!
    Right now I'm...
    Planning.
    Buying.
    Asking.
    Reading.
    Listening.
    Asking some more.
    DayDreaming.
AND occasionally cutting, but not welding yet. ;-)

I think this site is great and enjoy seeing the project progress photos, but would liek to see even more photos from the guys at the welding stage. And if those who make AutoCAD or TurboCAD drawings of their would share them that woud be great, too.
