I appreciate you thanking me but STUTZ posted it (And I don't wanna take away from him). I made the Suicide knob as a gift to him for all he has taught me and helped me with. He made the Gas pedal and Brake pedal when he took an intro to machining class.
    Thanks

You misunderstand. I was saying that what you did is perfectly legal.

Nice knob! I never heard the term "Suicide Knob" before, I've only heard "Brody Knob" or "Necker Knob."

I've never used one, seems like you'd have to be pretty confident in the quality of it, and I've seen some cheapo ones I wouldn't trust.

After seeing these i might make one out of a couple different materials pressed together(Brass, Aluminum, Plastic Etc). Cuz these are pretty sweet lookin.

  7. Thanks for all the comments guys. Its a sturdy sombitch, so i have faith in it. I had a purple dice brody knob in my '66 Chev Truck about 6 years ago. Going around a corner it came off in my hand, I wasn't in danger of crashing, but it hurt like a mother *^%$r when my hand smacked the other side of the steering wheel. So I learned if one is going to use one it better be Quality!

Edsel, thanks for backing me up on the coin issue. I made some rings out of silver coins a couple of times and had to bring up that point before in defense.

  8. That's slick man! Old skate board wheels come in handy on so many occasions.

They are illegal here too, but so is a lot of other shit. I don't let it bother me much.

  10. I have had one on my Safari for many years and it is very helpful in steering the car(manual steering)at low speeds.Even with a large diameter wheel it can be difficult. I started out with one of those cheap accessory skull knobs and the only thing that did was destroy the steering wheel. The clamp is designed very poorly and readily loosens,

I found an original Hollywood knob at a flea market for $10 awhile back and the clamp design was excellent.Where the cheapo knob has teeth that dig into the wheel and eventually will crumble the plastic, the Hollywood knob has two thin stainless steel straps that apply even pressure without using teeth.

One thing to consider is where you mount the knob.If you mount it so that the knob is on the inside perimeter of the wheel it is a lot less likely to snag on your clothing but does not provide quite as much leverage. Some of the early knobs had a feature whereby you could flip them 90 degrees out of the way for normal operation.I don't think they re-produce this style though.

As to getting anything snagged on the knob;I think those stupid chain steering wheels are much more of a hazard.I had one for about a week and my fingers kept getting caught in the loops. It is now seeing duty as an electrical cord hanger on my shop wall.

  11. We called them "knocker" knobs, because of the nekkid gals with the nice "knockers" on 'em

I remember them with a pin up girl picture in them in the 50s. We called them suicide knobs around here also.

  14. Necker Knob! That's what I was always told they were called too. You don't hear that too often. Looks good Scotty.

In the '50's I was already old enough to sport an erection whilst staring at one of my uncles (they both were OLDSMOBILE line-mechanics of over 30 yrs.) Spinner/Suicide/Brody Knobs. NOT because they were shiny, or had a penny epoxied in them, BUT(T) because of the T & A they proudly displayed. I still recall the first time I was allowed to rub its (HERS'!) surface, for good luck, B-4 starting the cars engine! WHOA, NELLIE!
SO, any of you blokes know were an old fart can, these days, buy a "PIN-UP" knob?

I like those SKs. I love the fact that there are all kinds of styles out there. Both old and new.

I have a matching shift knob and "necker" knob made of bakalite that I found at a Model A swap meet.

Ah!, the halcyon days of farming! We used to fabricate hand/wrist shields from olde kerosene tins for protection. These days I imagine they mold such devices from bloody carbon fiber...if'n they do use a BK. (I once new a lad, he was slightly off, who had 3 of those murderous knobs on the wheel of his '47 Buick. Told the girlies that he could spin yarn that way...well, at least he COULD spin tall tails.

I thought these things were the ultimate in poor man's power steering, they are very popular here on trucks, and essential on fork lifts.

My car has power steering, so no real point for me to use one. I think they're kind of cool, but I probably wouldn't use one.

BULLSHIT! The first time I got pulled over in my galaxie the cops didn't ask for my licence or any of my paper work and the fist thing he said to me was"what the hell is your problem" I was confused and he read thethe. Riot act and called my car a piece of shit. THEN he went off about how my knob was illegal and was a $180 ticket. Luckely after sitting there listening to him yell at me he walked off to his car and drove off. Now when I get pulled over I twist my when to where the knob is in my lap and I cover it with my shirt.

I've been getting dicked with by cops all damn month!

First thing I wanted to take off when I saw the car, bought the car, drove it home and used the damn thing the whole 3 hour trip back home.
Took the cheesy Monroe pic out of it and left it.
    I find it really useful.
