AOD Tranny Guys Please Help

Ok I switched my aod shift arm to the up position so I could use a 67 auto shifter (Mustang variety I believe). now the question is where does the TV arm go?? I am at that point right now I have a lokar TV cable standing by and any picture would be a HUGE help. Thanks in advance- Vic- btw this is an AOD attached to a 302 in my 64 Falcon 2dr hardtop

can you use a AOD ****** on a dual carb set up? i have a 428 SCJ with the factory two four manifold. i have a c4 ****** and want to trade to a AOD ******. i judt dont know if i can hook up the tv cable to it.

 

retired blue, I did this one a few years ago, but I don't remember the details. I do remeber that I mocked the Lokar stuff up down on the trans and it became real apparent where everything had to go. If I do rember correctly I had to go back into the trans to flip the arm back around for the kickdown. I know this isn't very helpful, but just crawl down under there with all the Locar stuff and have at it.
A bit O/T on this one, but how much cutting if any did you have to do to get this trans in the Falcon's trans tunnel? I was just looking at doing this deal the other day behind a 250 six in my girlfriends '62...

 

I recently put a built motor and AOD in my 65 fairlane. I ended up using the original column shifter (Only goes into P,R,N,D and OD like this). I used the original AOD shift arm and I bought the Lokar cable. The lokar cable I think came with an arm that you use on your trans to hook the cable to. Also, note that the spring on the cable itself isnt really strong enough to pull the cable back all the way. I made a piece and bolted to the trans and used a throttle return spring. Hard to explain. Now on the carb side its a little tricky. I actually used a pressure gauge on my trans to set it. pain to do it all by yourself. Anyways, once you get this all hooked up, make sure the throttle blades move the same as the TV cable. This is very important so you dont smoke your AOD up. I tell ya what, I am gonna step out to the garage and have a shmoke. I will take pics as best as I can for ya. well what I can cause the front is in the dirt and the rear is on stands. Damn air ride was callin my name. Be back in a few.

Sure can, though you will probably need a Lokar (or other universal fit type) to get the right length. With multiple carbs with progressive linkage, run it off the primary.

Yes. Everything works off the back carb

cannot tell for sure if on sabtaj1 carb in great pics posted. but, to make cable function properly need to attach what is called a TV cable correction bracket-search at phoenixtrans.com (Weatherford,TX-uses Lokar Products) or summittracing.com (have most Lokar parts you will need). this helps the cable travel on a much smoother path rather than just mounted on standard carb linkage. I am using a '69 302 with AOD in '51 Ford Coupe project-not installed yet. Oh ya, be sure to use a rearend with low gears 3:55, 3:73 or around there.

 

The added return spring is a good idea,it overcomes something Lokar has never addressed even though their techs have been told about it from customers who posted about it.Here is mine a 302 Ford AOD with an AFB(aka Edelbrock)Since pic was taken I leveled the cable bracket.

I dont think an aod would survive behind a 428.

 

Thanks guys, my deal is that my shift arm is UP so I can use a rod with my shifter, I need info in the TV arm being in the down position?? then run the TV cable from the rear of that lever?? well gonna try it today

 

I dont think it will work correctly with the arm down. Best bet would be to leave the arm down and use a cable to the shifter and the arm. Or get a Lokar Shift selector that goes in the side of the trans cause you can acually reposition it in many pos***ions. I dunno. Sorry I couldnt help. Maybe make another TV arm that sticks out instead of inward and make a new front cable mount that way its all out of the way of the selector???

 

It will work correctly in the down position if you are using a lokar cable. Here is the mockup on my T. I don't have the extra spring on it that many have mentioned is needed in other threads. As you can see the TV arm is down. The instructions with the lokar cable explain it.
The cable comes with a new arm.
