Ill agree. I dont get it, never have. I wont knock it. Anyone have pics of a sectioned car actually cut in two? I know there was a guy on here who sectioned a 49 or 50 Chevy awhile back. I cant remember his name,.... porkstar or pig something. I wanna say he was from Canada or something. He had a ton of photos and work into that car. I know this thread is for shoeboxes so I wont hi jack.
I don't have the link for it but go to Rikhoving's website. He has an amazing collection of sectioned shoeboxes.
I beleive the "X51" is alive and well and living in the Portland Oregon area. I have seen it once or twice at the G.G.'s Puyallup show over the years.
Love shoebox Fords, always appreciated how sleek sectioned cars were. Must have also affected stylists in the day too, as the French Ford Comete (Simca) sure looked like a sectioned '49. Good thread here: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=150959
Thanks SD and Uncle Bob, I don't recall Bailon's, at least with the top off(how cool is that),but I do remember seeing the other one a few times. My memories are from some little books given to me by my Uncle Bud, I believe they were '57 issues of either R&C or Rodding & Restyling(not Hot Rod) and featured a least a few of these car turned trucks. I can't look it up myself because many years later I gave these books back to my uncle's youngest son(gotta keep the next generation going in the right direction). Just learned that he races vintage snowmobiles, mission accomplished! Anyway thanks for the responses, Cat
i love shoeboxes near as much as Falcons, chopped, sectioned, stock, whatever... but i prefer a sectioned car with a small chop or none at all... it's all about proportion. IMHO the stock shell is too tall... and just dropping it by lowering doesn't take away the visual mass. a short section, radius the rear wheels, clean off some trim.... it works. it comes down to whether you consider the car in question a custom or a rod... rods are all about the engine, power, speed.... customs don't rely on the engine quotient so much as the visual impact. (lots of customs have badass engines, don't take me wrong). look like a Corvair? don't see it. that car where the builders screwed the sheetmetal together, while welding only where absolutely necessary... WOW. what they wouldn't have given for a MIG welder.
Hello. I dont think Billy Gibbons car is sectioned (chopped and "three windowed") but its certainly a beautiful car. Sectioning would surely be one of the biggest mods you could do to a Shoebox. For my part I believe they look best just lowered with maybe a very small chop. Once sectioned there just doesnt seem to enough meat left above the wheel archers. Would be interesting to shrink down the diametre of the archers combined with a 1 inch section. Andy.
The bodybag, aka "The intercepter" is the most beautimus sectioned 50 ford of all time. but thats just my opinion.
Here's a couple pics of a sectioned shoe (among with many other mods) that was at the KOA show in Gettysburg this summer . A darn nice car , IMHO .
Have a look at this thread: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=512524 There are several sectioned shoeboxes in it that have not been mentioned here, including the ones built by Paul Bragg and Foose & Son.
There was a purple one in Street Rodder a while back, channeled over a Monte Carlo frame that was spot-on.
