George is right, it's an A40 Austin, cheap to buy in the '60s (and light) so often saw service as gassers. Here's one at Continental Divide Raceway in 1962... maybe yours is an old warhorse listed: http://www.austinworks.com/gassers.html

Value is subjective, but with only 3 pics and no info, it's just a cheap roller.
With a legit history it could be a diamond in the rough.

exactly what is it that makes you think it's a drag car? Faded letters on the trunk, beam axle under the front? modified frame with racing rear end and and suspension? Or is it a stocker with no evidence of modification?

    tnx

i don't know about drag car but with the tires not slicks and the offset it may have been set up for dirt track.

In my opinion if you were to get a nickle over $1000..........take the money and run............fast. I may be out of the loop on this one but all I see is a possible buildable shell, nothing more.

Agreed. I have a good friend who is into A-40's. He buys and sells 'em for under a grand often.

I`ve never seen an Austin that wasn`t a drag car. $1000 bucks seems like a deal to me. I`d rather have an Austin over an Anglia any day. Thats just my 2 cents. But what do I know, I`m a Custom guy. Dirt track car. There`s no dents, unless they never got that far.

Anglias are most often found on the dragstrip along with Willys and Austins.Willys prices are Big Bucks. $27000 grand for a solid roller about 3 years ago at an auction around here. Anglias are more affordable and along with the Austins. But Austins are harder to find. Post the pic`s of the pickup. Maybe we can help. Like I said, $1ooo seems like a deal to me. Best wishes for the times ahead and welcome to the HAMB.

  17. A 4 door may go for $1000 but a 2 door is pretty hard to find these days. 2 door looks much nicer than a 4 door as well.

apologies - as usual, I shot first and asked questions later. Didn't even bother to enlarge the pictures before I fired off that terse inquiry. Had I seen the rollbar, I could have saved myself some embarrassment - this time anyway.

The two door Austin known as a Dorset was only made in 1947, 1948 and the the first month of 1949. The four door Devon in this body style was made from 1947 to 1951. The two door in solid condition as worth around 3 to 6 grand depending on condition and how complete. If it were an old drag car then history is everything as for value. I have had a few of them over the years.

That'd be a fairly rare body these days. According to a magazine article I have, only 15939 Dorsets were produced. The Devon was a bit more popular at 273959.
