My dad is building a budget minded street rod out of a '47 Pontiac Fastback, Torpedo, Streamliner... whatever. We are worlds apart in what we see as "cool". We do agree that the grill makes the car in most cases, and I respect the statement that "to each, his own." BUT I'm scared to death what he is going to do with it. I've been trying to get him to reuse some of the original grill or even the extra '47 Caddy grill he has, but he seems pretty convinced that a tube grill will look great. He may be right in that a tube grill may go better with the working theme of the car (not lowered, chevy rallys, no bumpers), but I need to help him out in getting the "right" look. Suggestions, pics, etc are appreciated... doesn't have to be a Pontiac, Chevy, Caddy Olds of the same vintage would work. Let's see some grills!! Thanks!!
That's actually pretty close... it's the bigger model (taller roof), but this should do for any photo shoppers. This picture proves my point though about the stock grill... love it.
The biggest issue he will have with it is the peak in the center, where it comes out to meet the front of the hood.
The Olds grille of the same era is the most popular one of the era. A tubular grille would be a bad choice actually for any early car.
I kinda agree with the last statement about tube grills... not fond of them either, but in the interest of the budget, an old's grill is out. Anyone have some modified stock grills or a tube grill that actually looks decent?
Here's the car in question... please photoshop some grill ideas so I can convince him NOT to do the tube grill!!
hmmm any way youd be able to put an earlier pontiac or chevy grill in there? im talkin like 40-41 i guess... that's be pretty cool lookin.
