Sounds like a good place to stop for lunch, on my way to the GNRS, next month. Haven't been there since 1964. There was no RT 10, back then, just a two lane road that went on forever.

Good story, sounds like those people in desert have a little cabin fever going on...

You'll be able to talk about that adventure till you die.

Been there many times going to the River. Never a problem. Even left a Cad Eldorado at the gas station for a year and nobody messed with it. Was a gas stop for years. Sorry to hear the station is closed. I've seen long lines there waiting for
    gas etc...

That's what's up with Elpolacko - He got bit!!! He's been obsessed with his hammer ever since... Must be low grade level of infection though, low cal teenage brains and all! Is there actually any caloric value at all in teen age brains?

No pictures of Britt ? Sounds like a story I read somewhere.... small town, abandoned empty resturant with a 19YO waitress,....noone around and time to kill.

    Heh heh heh

Thats what happens when you drive them. Sucks to miss Mooneyes.

i feel ya brother. i ran into the storm from hell at 3am on hwy 666, ended up hunkered down in a wide spot called sheep springs. Spent the night locked and loaded with a finger on the trigger, one eye watching for zombies while the other eye tried to sleep. this place looked like the makings of a bad b movie.

Had the 50 cadillac break down about 7 miles west of desert center. i agree with 1950coronet600hp ..

  13. I just found Desert Center Cali on Google Earth ... there is definitely an area just north and east of town that appears to have a large number of vehicles on it (spread out all over the place). Definitely get that 9" back together and get back there, who knows what you might find. Sounds like you have an "in" with the owner. I'd get back there quick before he forgets who you are.

  15. I would not suggest any of you people unfamiliar go snooping, I grew up nearby and its not advisable.-Weeks

  16. Freaky but true, there used to be triangles shaped outta big palm trees right at the exit. There is pretty much nothing left of them now but stumps.-Weeks

I have always wanted to get in that yard though... Never been traveling with anybody that wanted to stop. Oh, Elpolackos back to normal - must have just been the 24 kind of zombieism.

Anyway you slice it your one lucky SOB!
    BBQ and Brains Huh? Damn

  19. My family broke down there in my mom's car when I was about 12. We got a ride to town from some locals....wouldn't normally do that but it was about 115 degrees outside.... so it was smarter to get outta the sun. Spent about a day and a half at that same diner...till someone was able to come get us and bring the part we needed for my mom's volvo. Sorry you broke down...at least you have a memory that'll last forever.

  20. Just to be clear ... it appears to me that the original poster here has been invited to the yard by the owner. I am suggesting HotRodRon get back there soon while the old guy still remembers who he is. I am not in any way suggesting anyone else is welcome there.

Based on the Google Earth image (which is accessible to anyone with a computer) there does appear to be quite a large grouping of cars in the area of Desert Center so I am making the assumption that that is the yard that was mentioned. It could very well be worth the return trip for Ron.

borntoloze, If you have gone through that section of I10, you know that the yard is there. It's no secret, but it's contents is, kinda. See small towns out 80 miles from no where in the desert are a bit different than they are elsewhere. People come out to these places to not be found, and some times wandering up on them unannounced is not a very healthy thing. Hot Rod Ron is kinda holding a "golden ticket" that not many have had the opportunity to cash in. The hope is that he will be able to without further incedent. I'm sure there will be a trip over soon.

  22. Need Louvers ... I agree, It seems Ron does have a "golden ticket". Weeks was stating that it would not be wise for "just anyone" to go there uninvited, and I agree with that. My post mentioning Google Earth was really just to point out to HotRodRon that there appears to be a rather large number of cars in Desert Center and the return trip could very well be worth while (as opposed to returning to find that the entire "yard/collection" consists of 6 AMC Gremlins and a Ford Fairmont:)).

mayhaps a car show at Desert Center is what the town needs???

  24. You guy's crack me up. Yes I have thought of doing a run called the "zombe run or something else just to help infuse the place with a little tourist money to help restore the diner. As for the golden ticket to the yard I guess you could say that. I prefer to experience the wierdness of people who live off the beaten path and if vintage cars enter the picture then that's a bonus. I already have spoke too Rodger on the phone and assured him I made it home and will be back very soon to hang out and see what happens. Will keep you all posted on what happens at ElPalcko's shop tomrrow when we take a closer look at the rear end assy. Also will let you know what happens to the next encounter with Rodger on

    CHILLER THEATHER BBBBBAAAAAAWWWWWWAAAAAAA

  25. I was thinking about Anthony Michael Hall from breakfest club movie fame or maybe Jason Stadom from the transporter.

Elpalcko can plan himself since his so dreamy.

Without a few bad days in life , you would'nt have any good stories . You would eventually forget about the Mooneyes deal , but you'll always remember the Desert Center Cafe !!

If you are invited to the Ragsdale junk yard you should go!
Those are some crazy folks, we had some of them in Corona too, I have said for years "You be careful of those Ragsdales!" and that was the good advice given to me by my uncles 50 years ago!
Have you seen Rob Zombie's Movie "House of 1000 Corpses" ? Well there you go...the Desert Center movie has been done! Rural TX=Desert Center CA
Did they share that all those dead palms were to attract the aliens to land there?
    Yep, thats what they said!
We once saw a Beagle refuse to go near the gas station bathroom there ,jumped back in the truck and howled!
Ron, be sure to leave a GPS co-ord and a time you should return with someone when you go back...just sayin'...

Well, in my experience the beagle had better sense than most of us. That rest room was beyond nasty. Anybody ever eat at the burger/taco stand on the Southeasterly side of 177 just across from the aforementioned gas station?
