From looking at the hub cap and seeing the shine on the car an no reflections on anything behind it you may be correct sir. But that is one hell of a concept and what a looker real or photoshopped.

How about a 56 T-Bird porthole in the sail panel? (Just kidding.) I looks good but there is something about it that "disturbs" me. Maybe it's the large blind spot.

Agreed. Maybe a different rear window would make it look more "right"?
But it looks sharp just the way it is. If we're voting, I vote for the maroon color!

Ooooo. I like the maroon one. A local guy has a radiacal 4 door Merc with the rear panels where the windows would be molded in. The bottom portion (doors) still open. Crazy slimer green with scallops.....Lemme see if I can find a pic. Found it!

Rik coloured and photoshopped the pic for me a while back when I was chewing over colour ideas, (thanks Rik) when its eventually finished it will almost certainly be maroon and very traditional. It's stalled at the moment due to problems at home but will be under way again next year. I have done more since the top pic but there's a long way to go still.

I really like it. It says early 50s custom without being like nearly every other customized Mercury out there.

Actually, I think when Ford designed what became the 49-51 Mercury, a 3-window coupe was in the mix. And it looked very much like this custom, but it didn't make it to production.

The body style was originally going to be a new larger Ford, but ultimately was given to Mercury.

I think I've seen this picture before in the Hot Rod Magazine...

  19. Maroon version is intriguing. I hired Rik to photoshop my car too, helped me a lot. I highly reccomend him!

wow I forgot about this one! Hope it is finished up soon...it's going to be very cool!

  24. Well I like it just the route you're going with it. And you damn sure won't find yourself driving up on another one that looks like yours. Just finish it.

Just my opinion, but that car is the only chopped Merc I have ever seen that I feel would look better with a '51 type rear window. I think laid down like that, the points would look right at home with the lines of the tulip panel and sail panels...

This was the original design I did that started it all...
The chop was a bit more extreme on this one.

And yes it was in Hot Rod magazine.... and they forgot to mention me!

    Maroon version...

And Tom's slight angle change so that the dip in the door and the Angle on the B-Pillar is identical will work extremely well.

i am wondering if the work is really so hard.

if the rear of the rear door and the front of the front door is used you can get a completly rounded door. there is no need to use the b pillar of the 4dr, only threnghten the area behind the door and the missing sidegl*** makes all strong!?

And the door seems to be longer than a coupedoor, right?

you can even keep the drip rail of the 4dr that makes it look traditional.

for me its very important to keep the window rounding in the back, thats makes it so cool!!!

I think it screams Ayala and early Barris like few would.
Love it. And having seen the Koppa Kruiser i know this will be bad *** when done.
The slime green one w/ 4doors is terrible.
