The deal on the parts fell through so I'm going with a mid '60s build with a 283 PowerPack that is original from carb to pan and a 9" rear. The last few weeks I've been working on the body fixing stress cracks and installing patch panels, rebuilding the brakes and spindles from the '46 chassis. This weekend I started on the frame as I was a little burnt out on body work.

Split the wishbone from the '46

Mocking everything up, will probably mount the radius arm mounts on the inside of the frame.

Just found this build, looks great! Was that Coupe body on an old restored car? Good luck with the project!

TiredIronGRB, I can only agree with several of the others. I have two "A's" who have late model V-8 parts. My '31 has '41 Ford front and rear axles on a Bleed Acehole frame. The other is my '29 "A" RPU on a double Z'd Riley Auto frame. It also has '41 Ford front and rear axles with wide five brakes/rims. Your big plus is the clean body you have with a complete V-8 drive train. Oh, the coupe use two sets of '41 front hydraulic shocks (Houdaile style - I believe). Press on and keep us posted about your progress.

Thanks guys! I got the body and frame here on the HAMB, it has very little rust but is beat up pretty bad.

nice start i would have chopped up that nice 46 frame and put the x member into a set of 32 rails. great find on the body that is a nice start. i myself would say it needs a y block or a hopped up banger, but i say that about everything.

I Z'd my model A frame 3" in the rear also, with a 4" drop axel in the front. Stance pic from Mooneyes Christmas Party last weekend.

Yes, but I'm waiting until I get all my mounts and cross members figured out then I'll sandblast it before boxing and welding the original cross members in.

I've been looking at headlight stands and would like to make something myself but still stay with a traditional theme. I thought what would I do if I were a young man in the mid to late sixties...I would use what was handy, so I started looking around the shop and came up with this.

The arms off the '48 spindles, eyes off an old set of shocks and two .250 thick spacers (not shown).

There's the spacers, welded in flush with the bottom of the shock eye.

I moved the headlight mounts back a little and integrated the shock mounts into them.

I got my rear axle this morning, it's a Dana 44 from an International (58" wide, 5 on 5.5" lug pattern). I cut all the brackets off and mocked it up with a simulated load on it ("C" clamped the spring to the crossmember), should work good with the "T" spring.

I cut the lip loose on the center crossmember and moved it up, I will cut out the hang through for more trans clearance.

Picked up two nice wheels for the rear.

Also got a nice steering column, box and wheel from a '40 Ford truck. Steering wheel is perfect with no cracks and has all the button hardware.

    She's almost rolling.

Haven't decided yet, maybe once I get it rolling with the body set on it I can make up my mind.

Got my radiator and grill in, I went with the reproduction grill and shell...I just didn't have the money for an original. The fit and finish are surprisingly good.

Got the rear suspension setup, it's nice to be able to roll it around now.

Picked up some Radir lugnuts and bullet centers.

Ladder bar crossmember doubles and the trans mount.

Set my mock up engine in and located the motor mounts, now to fit my pedals and such.

I'm wondering how you kept stuff from warping when you did all that welding, some sort of frame jig, or what? just wondering, good work.
