From KEYE-TV today: warehouse burned in South Austin on W. St***ney Ln. that contained several cl***ic vintage vehicles.

The Austin Fire Department responded to the fire at 2056 W. St***ney Ln. near the Manchaca Rd intersection at around 2:45 p.m.

There are no known injuries from the fire.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined and the damage cost has yet to be estimated but AFD did confirm that one of the vehicles damaged was the “Captain America” chopper from the 1969 movie "Easy Rider" with Peter Fonda and Dennis Hopper.

KEYE TV will update this story as we learn more.

    Anybody know anything about it?

A fire destroyed several vintage cars Monday after in a South Austin fire, and several more were damaged, according to Austin Battalion Chief Thayer Smith.

The Fire Department got the call about 2:40 p.m. Monday. Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke and fire coming out of a warehouse building at 2056 West St***ney Lane, Smith said.

Damage estimates are about $1 million for the cars and about $100,000 to the building, according to the fire department. The cause has not been determined.

Smith said there were 22 cars and eight motorcycles inside the warehouse. The cars dated back to the 1920s and at least four of them were destroyed, Smith said. He said several more suffered smoke and soot damage.

Smith said the owner of the warehouse reported that one of the destroyed vintage motorcycles in the warehouse was driven by Peter Fonda in the movie “Easy Rider.”

Driving home from work I heard a little about it on the radio. The announcer said that there was a million dollars in damage to the contents of the building and about one hundred thousand dollars damage to the building itself. He also said that the fire appeared to have been started intentionally.

I hope they find the S.O.B. that did this. Sad to see those cars in that state.

Yeah, cause all these historic vehicles sitting in storage, even if driven from time to time, are really bad for the environment...

    Seriously, that ****s...

Supposed to NOT be the original Captain America chopper from what I read on another site. It's in a museum in Iowa. The other one was stolen after the movie was completed and never heard of again.
