If you were building a stock Hudson Hornet, yes they would be "a little obnoxious". In this case they have as much at***ude as the rest of the truck and they're perfect as is. Please don't cut them!

  6. I wanted stacks that resembled Hilborn stacks here's what I made:

I got a few small things done. I built my headlight stands. I had a headlight bar off of a 32 BB truck, so I cut and bent that up.

Also I built my radiator rods twice. The first set I made bent in and attached to the radiator in the middle. I got them done and didn't like them at all. The second set I made new mounts farther out, so the rods could run straight. To keep them even I had to put a little Z on the p***enger side because I kept running into either the top outlet or the fill cap. I think the 2nd set looks a lot better.

I built the mounts for my taillights out of some 5/8 round bar and flat stock. I was going for a look similar to the headlight mounts.

You are going to have a bunch of burnt rubber all over the back of those tail lights......

    Nice work, -Abone.

I'm stealing your headlight mount idea, by the way...

What are your plans for the rest of the exhaust?
Are you leaving the bed as is, or planning any rolled pans?
Love the headlight and rear tail light treatment.

Maybe you have stated already... what are the final color plans?

    Following in earnest....

I hope so! Go ahead steal away. It crazy how some of these easiest pieces to make come out the best.

For exhaust I'm going to run a baffle in each pipe. A friend of mine that runs a blown hemi uses them and it seems to quiet it down enough for the street. I'm probably going to build collectors for the track. So if it's still to loud I'll be able to run baffles in the collectors too. I really don't want to because I love the look without.

The bed is done. I really like the primative look of the stock bed. Also because I mounted the bed close to the stock location. I don't think I need the filler panels to hide the extra space. I wanted the tires higher then the reveal too. I know a lot of people don't care for that look. But I think it gives it the illusion of the back being lower then it is. Obviously now I have one of those "worthless trucks that can't haul anything":). But it's a racecar right?

For the final colors I planning on a high metalic silver frame and cage. For the sheetmetal I'm going with HOK candy brandywine or something similar. Then I want to do yellow or red lexan windows. I'll probably change the color of the motor when it's in final color too.

I have some more progress to post. I started on the wiring. I have all the under dash stuff mounted and wired. Its amazing how little room there is under the dash by the time everything is mounted.

I started to wire up the motor and realized to finish it I needed to get the alternator mounted. I didn't want an ugly alternator hanging out in the breeze. I just squeezed in between the oil pan and the frame rail. To make it fit I had to notch the frame rail.

I built a cage around the fuel cell. It also doubles as the parachute tether mount.

I was just thinking the other day "I wonder how that bad *** drag truck is coming?" Looks like you're getting close to firing it. Cool stuff!
