Looking for examples of show cards with your car info. Hand painted preferred, but mot mandatory. Is yours more about giving credit where credit is due? or pointing out key features on your car? Both ???

I am also making a custom build book where I give everyone who helped ample credit, and they will get a book as well.

    Thanks in advance.

  2. Coby, I don't know if these will help you or not. I took all these in 1980 to 1983. All are handpainted by various Chicagoland stripers/letterer's. Most all done on Plexigl*** and a must for the complete custom display image.

The handpainted "Show Sign" is virtually non-extistant nowadays around here. Some are very poorly done by quicky computer signshops or a mix of paint & vynil by others. I really wish this artform would make a comeback. There are still many great handpainters out there. It amazes me how a guy with hundreds of hours of time, money & sweat, settle on what amounts to a $10 sign for a big carshow.

    Great thread idea, thank you!

That's EXACTLY what I'm looking for. Mine will be hand painted for sure, but not on something you would expect. Thanks a ton.

I always like the story behind the build.

I can't what kind of Sign you come up with for your van. It's going to be on a whole new level! It'll probably be made out of rare african mahogany with insets of wood used on the mayflower.

As far as a way of saying 'thanks' - the build book is a cool idea... a signed notation inside would make that a treasure for sure.

I don't mind the cards so much at big indoor shows, especially on true 'show cars' - unless they block the view of the car. I guess it's almost a requirement for 'professional' type shows.

But I gotta laugh when Johnny Mullet whips one out for his '86 monte carlo ss at the local cruise night - same guy is usually displaying all trophys he's won at various little car shows in the trunk.

^^^ haha. This would most likely be a one time deal for a major show, then not used at the smaller shows and get togethers.

Here's my humble offering done for me by my good friend and striper "too tall" Paul. I think show cards just add that extra little pizzazz to finished car at shows and are much overlooked part of traditional hot Rod and Kustom culture. But the main reason I had this done was to give credit where credit is due to all the people that helped make my Kustom a reality.

What do "show cards" have to do with an outside car show? Nothing looks more ridiculous. Let your car do the talking.

this is all that survived over the 40 years...the rest of the cardboard just kind of fell apart...

for an outdoor show, it can provide the details of the paint, engine work and a "thank you" to all the people that helped.
I like a small show card at an outdoor show. I gives me answers to questions I might have if the owner isn't around.
    Who painted it?
    What color is it?
What gears does it run in the rear end?
What are those bucket seats out of?
    and on and on....

I always like to show my appreciation for guys that helped (every night) by mentioning their names.

    a car can't speak for it's self....

hey, the man asked to see show cards so I showed him a show card. It's outside because I live in England and we don't have indoor shows over here. If you don't like the thread, Why the hell are you posting on it?
Besides, if you let your car do the talking do you gag those ****ing "rimz?" Those *******s speak volumes.

Inside...Outside...I like cards that tell me about the car, the build, the history, maybe even before and after pics.

It is the owner's chance to tell me about stuff I might not have known/noticed. I don't care so much for the ones that are just promoting everyone who had anything to do with the build, but I understand why they do that and don't have a problem with it, but I don't pay much attention to them either.

Last year at the Monterey/Laguna Seca Pre-historic races I was pleasantly surprised at how many big buck (and not so big buck) racers had info cards out.

What's your beef Gman? Either contribute to the thread by posting show cards, or don't. There's no need to be a little ***** and ruin it for people who actually help around here. Indoor, outdoor, who ****ing cares. I just want to see show cards. You don't even know what show it's for.

I just created an 8 1/2 X 11 in photoshop and printed it out and pasted it to some foam core.
I just set it in the seat at shows and cruises.
Big signs can blow away in the wind and I'd hate to have my sign land on someone elses 20K paint job...

Wow, guess if I lived in Possum Crotch, I would have a bad at***ude too...

I think show signs can be true artwork, a lot of fun, and a lot of times the signs prompt a great conversation. I don't put this stuff out at every show or gathering, but sometimes I enjoy doing so.

Great thread. And there are some really cool vintage photos showing signs from the early car shows that were seen in another thread I believe.

Ed Roth painted this one for me in '87. The midget is long gone, but I'm not parting with the sign!

In 1961 I took my RPU to it's first show. A young artist was there asking if anyone needed a show sign. I paid him $20 to paint this one. A few years later this artist did one of the most famous flame jobs ever on a hot rod. The artist was Manuel Reyes. The famous flame job was on the California kid! [IMG]

Yes, I know he spelled Halibrand wrong. Hey, I was 16 and he was 18!
