Hey, Was looking into this fall to start relining the G-body aluminum brake drums for the guy's that do the drag racing. The aluminum drum are 8lbs. lighter and can cool down so much faster. Any thoughts on any insterest?? We presently reline Pontiac 8-Lug, Buick 45 & 90 Fin and Datsun drums. Was at the Buick Nationals and talked to some of the racers and they were very excided to hear that this would be offered soon.

Let me know what you think

Basically what used to be called an A-Body; 78-87 GM intermediates (Malibu, Grand Prix, Monte Carlo, Regal, Cutlass, El Camino, etc).

These drums will work on a lot of earlier models rears, too, not just G-bodies. They are a direct swap for pretty most 10-12 bolt with drums.

  6. Haven't I seen those drums on third-gen F-body (Camaro) too?

Yes, they had them too (not all of them, though). Most were iron.

  9. The 3rd generation F body cars that had them were the cars that were ordered with 16" wheels, but NOT the 9 bolt disc brake rear. They were 1/4" thick at the register bore to make up the width difference of the wider disc brake rear axle, which the 16" wheels were originally intended for.

Last I heard these were still available from GM, for like a 100 ea. I picked up a primo set from a pick-a-part for 12 ea. They are still around...

I, and I'm sure many others, would like to hear more about your Buick 45 / 90 fin drum reline process.

Can you reline the A-body style front aluminum drums? I know that '65 and '66 Pontiacs could be ordered with them and I currently use a set of aluminum fronts from a '66 Buick GS along with the late model style on the rear of my '65 GTO. Thanks.

So many question, where do I start? We reline both Buick 45 & 90 fin drums we also reline Pontiac 8-lug drums. We are starting to do the G-body or A-body cars. and after the first of the year we will start on the z-cars.
If your looking to drop some real weight off your car, removing cast iron drums and installing aluminum drum is the answer. on an avg. 8lbs. difference per wheel of un-sprung weight is equal to 10 lbs. of body weight which would equal 160 lbs. remove from your ride ASAP. Not counting on quick the drums cool down for better stoping.

If you have any other question please contact me and I can give you the E-mail address.

My understanding is the only that GM can offer at this time are cast iron drums which weight 8lbs. per drum heavyer than aluminum. and if you can drop 16lbs. just by changeing drums, why not. If you are looking for some real bang for your buck!!
Think of this for every lb. of un-sprung weight it is equal to 10lbs. of body weight.???
that could be about 160lbs. of weight you don't have to carry around.
shoot me a e-mail if you have any questions
