i have searched but not a lot of luck. put a 95 tbi sbc in a 40 pickup with TCI chassis and a walker radiator with neck on upper left and lower right. can any one save me a lot of searching with some hints of hoses or tips to which ones can be used. i can go down with a piece of bent wire and search, but most parts store around here are a holes and wont let u back or dont want to waste there time to custom fit. my biggest concern is snaking a upper hose from the thermastat up over and around the alternator that is mounted on the drivers side up high with a serp belt. almost looks like i need to go thru the serp belt to get a shot at the neck on radiator. the lower neck is real close to the rack and pinoin and will have to angle up sharply to clear the rack. hoping someones already busted there brains to get hoses and could give me some pointers. thanks for anyone kind to share some secrets. howard
i have made about 4 trips to the auto parts store with my wire hanger templete and bought around 5 to six hoses each time and still not any luck. i also searched here and and found recomendations of napas 8685 and 7849 for lowers and 7209 and 8602 for uppers and they no workie. desperate for any ideas other than a nasty flex hose. some hoses are so close to fit, but whats hurting me on the upper is the height of the alternator way up on the left side. this is a late model sbc with a serp belt and ac up high on the right side. the lower hose the dang rack and pinion pass right under the harmonic balancer and hits any hose right where it comes out of the radiator. i am hoping someone else has done a tbi motor in a 40 with rack and pinion, or i might have to couple 2 hoses with a sleeve or use flex hose and i really hate to. again thanks to the hamb for any tips.
i've used Napa # 8685 as a lower hose several times on 40s with a SBC , even with a Mustang II. not sure why it doesn't work for you...unless the later TPI motors are vastly different. can you post some pictures? maybe you will have to use parts of 2-3 hoses and join them
No ideas and it sounds like you have the engine mounted pretty low in the chassis so that may cause some issues. On the upper though, how about having a muffler shop bend up a pipe with the right bends in the right spots and use a short hose on each end like the 40 had on a flat head. You could paint or powdercoat it and it would look pretty much correct in there. That may or may not work on the lower hose though but it may be the way to make things work.
here is a few not to good pics. mr 48 chevy i like the idea of using some tubing and 2 pieces of rubber on the ends. just hate the idea of another chance of a leak on a truck i will drive alot. thanks again
