Hello, does anyone recognize this roadster? I would love to identify the car or see some other pictures of it. Any info would help. Thanks a lot for your time everybody. Some of the things that make it unique are the welded, smoothed driver's door without hinges, fully seamless, smoothed cowl, the roll bar and, maybe, streamlined hinges on the p***enger door.
I stole this pic from rodncustom here on the HAMB. His grandfather took the pic. I messaged him as well and would really like to find out about this car.
they just featured it tonight on discovery HD American Icon "the hotrod". I just read the post and looked up and there it was on tv. strange
I own a roadster that is basically an exact copy of the body done a long time ago. Trying to figure out history on my car.
I believe that the guy in the ball cap and checked shirt kneeling by the engine bay is Bill Niekamp. The p***enger side door is operable, like a center door T. Jim Jacobs restored this car in about '70 and I believe still owns it.
Here's a couple pics of my car. The body is basically exactly the same as the Niekamp car except for the p***enger side hinges are streamlined. The driver's door is welded and smoothed, the cowl is smoothed and seamless and there is a panel welded in where there was once a roll bar. It has a '40 dash as well. I was told it had Bonneville or lakes history. Not saying it did, just what I was told. Anyone recognize it?
I know Rudy Rodriguez built it how it sits now. He put it on this ch***is. Jimmy White confirms he did some work on it too later. I just think it's crazy how alike the body is compared to the Niekamp car.
You've got a killer project on your hands, the Bell axle is nice. Your body is close, but I wouldn't really be too concerned about how similar it is to Bill's car. There are a lot of differences too. Was the body shortened like the Niekamp too? Your cowl is completely molded in, his only had the tank and cowl sides molded together, the rest of the body is still separate. Still, very cool on it's own.
It was not shortened. And yes, there are a few differences. The car will get the look of a lakes car by the spring hopefully.
Duplication is a great form of flattery, however your car is so sweet as it is. I am excited to see it take some "lakes-shape". R. R.'s name is on the forum in numbers today. Good luck with the swell roadster. ~sololobo~
Thanks guys, the car's all torn apart now. When I got it there was absolutely no suspension travel. Doin some work to that and rebuilding the engine. My plan is to paint the frame and grill shell to look like the body. After it's all back together I want to do a 3-piece aluminum hood that is fully louvered and a deck lid that matches.
