Awhile ago I called Speedway to see if they'd sell parts and they said they would just give them a call.
If you have all the parts, just take out the snap ring and pop the discs out. Mine was a15$ original and frozen up. I just dis***embled it cleaned it good and put it back together. Keep it lubed. I spray some lube in the horn once in a while and give it a blast. There is nothing to wear out. They just get gummed up and stop spinning. A good cleaning and lubricating and you are a perfectly equipped hoodlum again.
thanks guys, I will try giving it a good cleaning, I am missing the ring that holds whistle in though. maybe I can make something to keep it in.
Funny fiding this thread, I am going to install an old wolf whistle this week. My question is does the pull cable or chain have to be in a straight line? Can it have a bend and still work?
they're made to work with vaccuum...air pressure can blow the guts out...seen too many destroyed that way...
Speedway used to sell a replacement "motor" for them. The threads are very fine and very easy to strip. It may just be simpler to buy a new one.
I just spent the afternoon trying to determine why my Wolf Whistle was not working and after reading threads like this and taking it apart and cleaning it, still no good. I believe someone put the "motor" in backwards at the factory so it is done and FYI, this was not an original Speedway horn, it was something I picked up at a swap meet. I just spoke with Speedway and they sell "Replacement Motors" for two types of Wolf Whistles. There are two types and you will NOT find these part numbers on the Speedway site and have to call the order in-they have plenty of stock on each type. The old style from back in the day uses a "motor" br*** encapsulated with spinning discs that drops into the front of the horn and is held in place by a retaining clip. You may have a hard time finding the clip but the Speedway replacement part number for this type of horn is 91063250-3. It may come with the clip but I did not ask as I do not need this one. The new style uses the same type of "motor" but it is threaded and screws into the front of the horn with very fine threads, so like others have said, be careful and Speedway recommends using a dab of clear silicone to hold it in place so you can remove it later for cleaning etc. These can have a tendency to "vibrate out" over time, hence the silicone versus using loc***e. This part number is 91063250-1. Price is $10.99 plus shipping and tax etc, plenty n stock. Speedway also sells a Horn "Boot" to help keep out the debris that cause these to stop working like others have commented about. I will update once I receive my new "new style" and let you know if and how it worked. Hope this helps some of you out.
