I have 3 350sbc's so I have plenty of throw away engines to try this out on.I have been wondering if anyone's got the idea to machine a crank that lets <O:pThe left and right banks work in conjunction ergo all 4 on the left fire and when they reach the bottom the right bank is all the way up and it fires,Instead of 1, 8,4,3,6,5,7,2. <O:p
i know. it's stupid and odd but i'm curious. it's a fault of mine.

if it dosen't work then atleast the 350's will make cool gl*** table stands or something.

I'll have whatever he's ^^^ smokin'... :D

3. They actually make "flat" cranks for small-blocks, where the throws are 180 aprt instead of 90. This allows 2 cylinders to fire at once, so you have a twin V-4.

My big block Chevy supermodified engine has a cam that converts it to a twin bank or 4/4 firing order (15736842)

As far as firing ALL 4 on one side at the same time...YIKES!

Haha...put that in a Boss Hoss bike...

4. Wow,

My wife thinks it would be great as a Harley, to sit on ! But 4 times better or eight times !

IF you could find someone to grind a crank that way (and that's a big IF) I think all it would be good for is one of those contests to see how quick the motor blows. Cuz that sum ***** will shake itself in half!

well i was thinking more for a puller or a hill climber.

no i'm not smoking anything, i'm quite sober right now.. my sanity might
be a there’s a machine shop about 3 miles from me that'll do it, they've made me some odd ball intakes too, like my 4x1x1x4 intake for my caddie 500, and my injected dual tunnel ram intake for my 302. And they do a good job for low prices. little off though.

Mountaineers...here... here! Also saw your little bit of zoolander cheer....methinks your engine idea is a little queer....if it runs at all, you will hear....boom boom boom.

Sorry my haiku ****s. Its late and im a little punchy...

... but "Apeneck Sweeney" says it in two words :D

But what do you mean? All four cylinders in a bank firing simultaneously, or those four firing one after the other, and then the other four? I think the latter can be done with a stock crank if you can figure out the cam - but you'll have long periods of rotation in between, which would require more flywheel than one would otherwise want.

I struggle to imagine the sound, though I suspect that there might be something of the H-D "potato potato". By the way, you know about the VW Beetle-powered Amazonas motorbike that used to be made in Brazil? We all know what an air-cooled VW sounds like: "spud spud spud spud ..."

They already do "work in conjunction". What you are describing would require some huge counterweights to give it any chance of not shaking itself to death. Not to mention a very heavy flywheel, since you'd be having 4 cylinders on the compression stroke at the same time. You need lots of kinetic energy to do that. Someone said it would be like 4 Harley Davidson motors, but it would be worse than that. A Harley is a 45 degree motor (at least the shovelhead I have is) which fires alternately at 405 degrees and 315 degrees of crankshaft rotation. What is being described would fire at 90 and 610 degrees of crankshaft rotation. It'd shake like a naked fat lady in freezing rain.....

If you got it to run, it would probably rip itself out of its mounts and walk down the road on its own.

You would be throwing the benefit of a v-8's power overlap to the crank, right out the window.
Give it a shot. I cant wait to see it on U-tube.

Everybody on the H.A.M.B. should read his profile. I've done some marching in my day, and I have never heard anything that far out.-----Very funny!!!

you and Scotch Buzzard King should open a shop together..... That Direct Exhaust Injection thing would be right up your alley.

I don't think so Tim. (Al Bourland impersonation)

Pretty sure they would have to forge up a crankshaft core to grind. Or maybe start with BILLET. (G)

mayhaps you don't get the scale of their operation, last week they produced a seamless shut off valve for a 3 1/2ft diameter high pressure gas line, that and they make cranks for caterpillars and Detroits.

Good luck finding a cam that will work... you will need a custom billet blank as most have the lobes roughed in before your cam grinder gets them and dont have enough material to put all the lobes were you will need them.
