Just wondering if anybody from the late 50s and early 60s drag racing era around the Texas Panhandle....and the old Amarillo Dragway....remembers the black '32 Ford 3 window coupe run by the team of Chadwick & Hardy during this time. (Kelly Chadwick and Don Hardy) I think they hailed outta Floydada, Tx and as far as I can remember, were never beaten in this coupe (at Amarillo)....I remember they went to the AHRA Nationals with it and won top honors....and I believe they may have only lost one race (the Finals) in the NHRA Nationals. Also believe they held either the ET or MPH National record awhile....or maybe both. They also had a '55 Chevy g***er that was a very strong runner....can't remember whether it was before or after the '32 Coupe. Would like to see a pic of that '32 if anyone still has one?
The 32 was for sale in Lubbock in the 70's. It's probably a nice street rod now. Don Hardy is still in business in Floydada, you might try getting in touch with him there. He builds energy efficient irrigation engines. I think he and his son are still building some cars too. Larry T BTW, I saw a picture of the 32 on the internet somewhere a while back but I have no idea where. You might google Don Hardy or Kelly Chadwick.
Not that old to remember the car. But I knew Kelly Chadwick !! He was our coach and my teacher in high school !! He talked about drag racing all the time....Cool Guy
I watched them run at Amarillo many times. Fuel injected chevy with B&M hydro transmission. I swear he rev'd the car to 9k between 2nd and 3rd. There was a big ratio difference on the transmission between those gears. Pretty car. My brother has an 8mm video of the car running at Amarillo.
hilcogolfer, if you're interested, I'll PM Don Hardy's cell number to you. I'm sure he wouldn't mind visiting with you. Let me know, Bill. Nevermind, I just now noticed how old this thread is.
