i have a weiand wc245 4x2 intake manifold. i want to run 4 single barrel 2 bolt carbs on it. i have found a source for the carb adapters. i seen a post where someone used the same adapters to run 4 single barrel rochester carbs on a simular weiand 4x2 intake on a desoto hemi. he said it idled very well. he did not get a chance to test it on the street before he sold the car. i would like to run 4 single barrel stromberg carbs. has anyone ever used single barrels on this intake. if so what were the results.
seems there is an old intake (with 4 - strongberg carbs) with that set up...not sure of the part #....do a thread search...
"Kerry" on here made up a plenum box that he bolted onto a 4X2 Weiand so he could run progressive linkage. Said it ran good with decent MPGs, 4 1 brls should work that way also.
I seriously question the available airflow through a 1-bbl. Yes, it will work, and the engine will run ok, (truck and marine intakes had a 2x1 intake available) but for the final value of labour and material I doubt it will be a good move unless you have low expectations of the finished product. .
I understand that there would be 4 of them...but they are still 1-bbls. Do we have a clue what the venturi and ****erfly diameters are?? Even if they are some kind of giant 1-bbl units and actually flow some air they are also likely to be a bit primitive, design wise. I really think it will be a wheezer. If he OP does not have high expectations then it might be just perfect. Perhaps I am just approaching this from the wrong angle, not the first time and I'm sure it won't be the last. .
This article has some good info that may help. It also depends on the type of engine your using. The single barrels may have idled well on a smaller Desoto Hemi but I think using two 2bbl's would have worked better. http://www.carbkitsource.com/carbs/tech/articles/TuneUp/CarburetorTuneUp09.html If you plan on using a Hemi too, there are lots of good Hemi Tech articles on here.
On that recent 2X1 thread someone was claiming use on a Bonnieville car, but you know how that is...but if a 2X1 worked, a 4X1 should also. Was the 2X1 used on fire trucks, or was that a rumor? If so they tend to move along!
i will be using 4 offenhauser carburetor adaptors. offenhauser part number 3858 or 3859 depending on which selection of single barrel carburetors will match up to either of these 2 carburetor adaptors. 331 hemis used factory 2 barrel intake manifolds and ran just fine. i would think just about any combination of single barrel automotive carburetors would be of suffient cfm or greater. i am not building a race engine. i just want the engine to perform within reason for street use. for me i just want the engine to sound and look good with fair fuel economy. all 3 bolt 2 barrel carburetors are way too expensive or they have vacuum power valves.
maybe this will change your mind about 4 single barrels...tok <object width="640" height="390"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/8me-0YfI5j4&hl=en_US&feature=player_embedded&version=3"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/8me-0YfI5j4&hl=en_US&feature=player_embedded&version=3" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="640" height="390"></embed></object>
What intake manifold is that?? Just a u-fab jobby?? With the way the carbs are sitting it almost looks like a Cunningham 4x1 intake. Anyone actually have a picture of that intake? Tuck... uh hum!? Forgot about that MFS clip...
All that video shows me is that you can get a hemi running (just barely) on four one barrels by pouring gas into the carbs. What is it with this 4 one barrel ****? First this, and then another thread with some guy trying to do it on a SBC?
why is this such a problem for you. i don't care for your foul mouth and bad at***ude. please keep this type of reply to yourself. the hamb should be for fun and a person should not have to read nonproductive bad mouthing. there are many things on the hamb i don't care for but i don't knock others for them.
Aw geesh... I give you the Cunningham. 4x1's are indeed traditional. Those intake manifolds even have performance curves available. I don't know the design specifics to say WHY it was so successful, but it was.
