Take it easy, Brett- no harm, no foul. This car may have be how it was done by some folks back in the day but some of it IS pretty funny if not a little scary.

As far as Tman goes, he's the MAN. He's sending me a couple Model A grille shells. For FREE. Because he IS helping me out.

    It's all good, Bro.

Just a WAG, but the hole in the 1/4 panel looks like it might have been for a whip antenna? Buddy of mine has a hole just like that in the middle of the trunk lid of an otherwise mint, rust-free '67 fairlane, had a whip antenna in it.

Well I'm not going to piss on your corn flakes Gigantor, and i can already see that you've found your stride as to what to do with it. Congrats on a nice grouping of parts to build as your own and I hope you got rippin good deal.

To the others, are you ****in kiddin me right now? "That's how it was done..." bull ****!!! I'm a 2nd generation builder/racer/hotrodder/restorer. I do know how it was done. I helped do a lot of it as a child for my Dad and uncles and all of their "gang" of racers and rodders. Now in my 50s I can still say that I never, NEVER saw that crude and cobbled stuff on any of their cars, and some of those guys were hacks. Just because it's old doesn't make it precious. It makes it one of the roughed up cobbled up cars in a sea of better ones, be it from the 50s, 60s, 70s, even now. I really have a major disdain for this thinking that BS work is "the way". It's not. Again Gigantor, I applaud your score and your direction and I hope it becomes an east coast dream ride for ya. Good luck to ya.

Hudson transmissions are easy to find (manual anyway), but there are two guys I know of that make adapters to use GM 350/400 transmissions behind a Hudson 6 for a decent price. Finding a good 308 for a decent price will be tougher than finding a trans for it...

Low cost fast rods are cool, but build quality and safety are cool too;) You have a interesting piece that should keep you busy awhile.

Kind offah frum a fellow New Englander! I ben up to Buxton to a old school gathering twice a yeah. This one would be welcome there fore shure.

I was building when all-the-world was oogling Detroit iron. Late 60's into the 70's were scarce times. Seeing the craft ongoing was part of the fun of it all.

Hey Guys- I appreciate the kind words when given, but I really didn't intend for this to become a drama session. Far from it. I just wanted to share my new project with some "as found" pics. I've had a couple old timers look at it in person and they all have a different read on many things, but the general consensus was that nothing that was done to the car was uncommon for a kid trying to throw together a jalopy for short money and that it was kind of a surviving testament to how some kids did things back in the day. A couple guys teared up just seeing it and were at a loss for words and just appreciated it for being what it was.
Now, I also can appreciate this for what it was when I found it, but I'll be damned if it will stay this way. I feel the car has earned her chance to shine and I feel honored to be the one to get to bring that out in her in my own way while hopefully retaining some of her more interesting inherited traits.
I've got a bone stock 308 Hudson motor that's been waiting for a home for a couple years now and I may have found it with this little roadster. I will start a build thread when I have something of merit to show, but in the meantime, let's keep this above the belt and just be happy that this little slice of history, while not pretty in spots and downright scary dangerous in others, did not get sent to China to be sold back to us in a new washing machine or something equally degrading. It survived long enough to have a second (or third) chance at celebrating life tearing up America's highways.
To all the HAMBers seeing the vision and celebrating the low-buck score, thank you. To all the haters... I'll see you in my rear view mirror some day. ;)

It is awesome. I would leave it as it is, make it safe and have fun with it. Super cool find. Have fun and you can see me in the side view mirror!
