Whats up guys, just had a question about the front suspension on my 29 coupe. I just got done biulding it and still have so much to learn, but im not sure how to properly adjust the front radius rods on the front beam. The car rides really stiff in the front and i still have plenty of shock showing. Any help would be great. By the way the hamb has helped me out so much on my first hot rod and its my saving grace.....thx everybody out there.
Radius rods, do you mean split wishbone or hair pins? Either way they have nothing to do with harsh ride. Maybe the spring is too firm. Pics would help.
put up some photos showing what you have for suspension, and a front shot showing the angle of your shocks, etc. nothing tying the axle to the frame should make a harsh ride, just the springs and shocks
If you have plenty of room in the shocks for compression and the front is too stiff you might want to try taking some leaves out of the front spring. I usualy start by taking one or two out and see what it does. dont take the one after the main leaf that is to suport the main. Like others have said, adjusting the raduis rod wont do much for harsh ride maybe just adjust the camber witch has to do with steering. A few pics would help...
its your front spring, those short springs dont flex worth a ****, try takin a leaf or 2 out of it..also check for anything binding
that makes alot of sence about the leafs. Im gonna go out there and check them out.Im gonna try and put pics up today also. thanks for the help, ill let you guys know how it goes..
With the shocks disconected the front of the car should bounce gently just by pushing with your hand, if not the spring is too stiff. Adjust accordingly. Usually by removing leaves. Another cause is poor geometry and binding, but hard to tell without pics.
