Can anyone tell me a sure fire way to determine if these buckets are stainless or just plain old chrome steel? Further these look like repops but what are they? Model A or some other designator with hot rod lingo? Thanks for the help.

check and see if they are magnetic.. wont tell you 100% as some stainless is magnetic, but most of the stainless used on car parts should not be magnetic..

  3. also take a look at the insides, if chrome you can see a history of plating and usually a bit of rust as the plating wasn't as good on the inside.

What they said above but, they look like chrome to me, the ring around the head light is stainless though (usually)

It's impossible to tell from the picture. Look inside the bucket for where the nickel plated into it but the chrome fell short of throwing all the way in. If the entire backside is the same color with no signs of rust, it may be stainless. Another possibility is plated br***, but that could be figured out by sanding a small spot in the backside to see if the base metal is br***.
