    Im building 6/71 supercharged stock sbc 350, it'll have two 600 holley 1850s
    w referenced power valves, my question is can I use a mechanical pump? and how many gph would I need and psi?. I like the idea of a mechanical pump, I think they look good, another piece of chrome and I don't have to wire it.

    Found my answer on Holley's web site;
    FUEL REQUIREMENTS
    Typically, at wide open throttle, full power, an engine requires 0.5 lbs. of fuel
    per horsepower every hour. A gallon of gasoline weighs approximately 6 lbs.
    Therefore an engine rated at 350 horsepower will require about 175 pounds
    (29 gallons) of fuel every hour.
    (350HP x .5 lbs = 175 lbs of fuel
    175 lbs/6 lbs = 29 gallons per hour)
    I think an 80 gph will be more than enough.
    Even if I made 500 hp (which I wont) 500 x .5 = 250 lbs of fuel
    250 lbs/6lbs = 41.6 gallons per hour, so the 80 gph pump should be fine.

    I've seen it done this way a number of times this year. I went ot over 150 events this year so I did see a few blown cars :D. I'd use a min 3/8 line from the tank 1/2 would be better. Good fuel filter. I'd put a fuel pressure gage right before the carbs. Maybe even make it visible while driving at first. The mechanical pump is much quieter and you could get a stock one in emergency to get home on. Electrics are a pain. The vane pumps are so noisy that you can hear them over loud exhaust. The ger rotor ones work great and are quiet..also expensive and not very readily available:( They seem to hold up but you never know.

    So what do I run...gd vane pump with #10 AN lines. Soon to change however. I just don't have room for the mech pump or I'd run one. Make sure your motor has provision for mech pump. Late blocks do not.

    I've used an Edelbrock victor series pump and had no problems. Still have the 671 and the fuel pump and plan to use them together again.

    We ran a holley on our blown 383 and it ran great. Actually I still have it since he went to a billet pump for looks. I'll sell it cheap. Mike
