My dad knew a guy with a 430 in a '56 Crown Vic gl*** top down in Louisiana. Pink and white with Cragar GT's. He said the car hauled *** just with the stock engine but drank copious amounts of fuel.

I believe 429-460 timing chains (probably just the chains though) fit. You might need to modify the gear though???

Kind of like modifying a 330-455 timing set to fit onto a '49-64 rocket engine, by enlargening the center hole and drilling a 3-bolt pattern.

This is turning into one of the better Lincoln posts. Mine runs so I'm torn about the stroker setup. Maybe down the road. Let's see some pictures of this car now though!!!! That motor was a steal huh?

Yeah i think you made me one hellova deal on the lincoln and I am more than pleased with it. Tore it down last Sat. morning to look at the mains and inspect the oil pump and screen. Couldnt find any metal in the pan, all mains look real good, and all cylinders look better then could ever be expected. I do need to find a stock pan for it. Dont know if that flat pan out of the boat will work under acceleration though. Also I need a header flange kit but that is minor. When i took apart the heads i noticed lots of cool stuff, like the valve springs are aftermarket probably isky, along with the pushrods you sent us, and the rocker arms are stamped with ISKY talk about *****in!!! Trying to find out if the arms are 1.5 or 1.76 FE arms. Also do you need that drive key for that Algon Injection unit back? Im sure someone probably needs it. As far as the coupe goes its coming along hope to post some more progress pics after this weekend.

Just a phone call away it would appear, Headers by Ed, in your choice of 1 3/4, 1 7/8 or two inch. http://www.headersbyed.com/fordv8s-.htm about 2/3 the way down the page. Looking at his prices make me want to get aquainted with my die grinder and a piece of 3/8 plate...

Any idea how hard it is to find a set of the 58 or 59 heads? Did they use the same size valves? Is the stock rocker ratio 1.5? All these answers bring more questions:D

Not sure if it has been mentioned yet or not. I have been told (but have not verified) that the rocker arms (not shafts) interchange with FE, and the oil pump and oil filter flange (like if you used Offy remote filter adapters/block-offs) interchange with something too (FE again?). Maybe a 430 expert can verify what interchanges with what, and in what years.

Im no MEL expert, but I have researched the subject a little bit. Lifters, rocker arms, and valve springs are interchangeable on both series. Oil pumps, bellhousing, flywheels are also all interchanable. I heard once that ignition is also, but i have not tried that.

I have heard there might be differences in bellhousings for some years, but can't confirm.

If you have a 383 Merc ('58 I think), then that is in the MEL family. If you want to add 3x2, your only two choices are:

    1) Factory Maurauder 3x2 intake ($$$)
    2) Edelbrock intake (also very tough to acquire)

Yup, sure did. I bought 3 or 4 basket case kits and used all the best parts. All the AMT 25 T kits, and the 65 Riviera kits came with Lathams... Im sure I missed a few others. Click on the link on the bottom of my post for more old school real and model rods...

Motors used in Marine applications usually have very little wear on them. I've seen a LOT of hotrodders search specifically for them just because you can get away with a re-ring and new gaskets. Had a ski boat with a Corvette motor.....wished I would of kept the motor.

Congrats on your buy............Uncle Scooby always has the coolest stuff. I'm ready to be adopted now.:D

I picked up a 65K 58 Lincoln 430 a few months ago, car sat in a shed since 65 when the ****** blew. I understand that except for the Merc Marauder the 58-9 Lincs had the hottest heads and performance.

Weight wont be too much an issue for me. Its going into a 62 F250 ch***is which will have a 49 F3 body mounted. The 430 isnt much heavier than the Y block that it came with. Behind the cab will be a Manley wrecker setup. The rear will be a Dana 60. Already collected all them parts. Just what I need for tin hunting.

Only thing I havent thouroughly researched yet is what year FE C6 is needed or what needs to be modified. Not particularly interested in a truck type 4spd and searching for all the other needed parts to make it play.

If anybody comes across a dual quad setup Im interested. Strictly for looks! Couldnt afford a Marauder tripower setup.

I've had no trouble with any FE bellhousings to MEL's yet. I'm putting a Toploader behind the 462 right now and did it with a 430 too with an FE Ansen bellhousing. I don't believe a 2x4 was ever made for an MEL. Not even an aluminum single 4v was made as far as I know. Your choices are cast 4v, tripower, 6x2, 8x2, 6-71, and Algon/Hilborn to the best of my knowledge. My neighbor is building a 430 right now with a modified 429 blue thunder aluminum 4v hi-rise intake that is really cool but he's got about a grand in the intake alone. Edelbrock tri-powers can be had around $300-500 on Ebay. 6x2 intakes go for around $150-300. The others are really hard to find.
