I don't know about the desirable (to us) aluminum wheels but around here the aluminum wheels are being eaten up by the s**** metal places. I keep several sets of steel wheels mounted up with roller tires to get something on a trailer or tow it home.

I just bought a set of nos keystone cl***ics in the original boxes for $100. Right place at the right time I guess. The stuff thats expensive is what's advertised for sale. There's plenty of good stuff stashed away out of site out of mind and when I find it, i'm always ready with cash...Those are the good deals

  6. I could only get $80.00 a pair for 15 x 8 slots at the last swap meet. The only artillery rim I sold went for $10.00 to a guy who wanted it for a fire pit.....

It all depends on what is "hot". I picked up a vintage set of Keystone Kl***ics for $175 this summer. They are 15" x 6" and are in great shape. I also saw vintage sets of torque thrusts for over $1000 at shows this year.

I have never seen a set of wheels that I HAD to have (especially for over a $G), I also have concerns trusting the structural integrity of 50+ year old wheels to use on a car that I actually drive.

Me and my friends still prefer to find cheap aluminum slots or ratty steel wheels and use a little elbow grease / rattle can paint job to bring them back to life for little money. When we want to change the look or try something different, we usually get our money out of them.

When we sell them, we don't try to get rich. I like to sell them to someone like myself, looking for a bargain to use on their ride.

    Whatever floats your boat..

Wheels are weird man, I have bought and sold alot and everytime I need a set of 35 ford wires, I pay 100 more for a set than I sold a much better set for. I have a really nice set of 32 ford 18's right now but I am scared to sell them. They don't seem to bring much unless you are looking for them. That seems to be the case with every wheel.

some stuff isn't being made anymore...and the stuff that is being made , doesn't quite have the same feel. i remember someone once telling me , if it was that easy , everybody would be doing it.....same goes for wheels. if they were all that cheap....everyone would own magnesium halibrands or americans:D and yes....there are people who will give good money for wheels ....still

It all depends what your looking for,....

These would cost you around $1,200. a pair.

I just hope they keep putting out the cheap *** looking repops, makes the real stuff worth more, nothing looks worse on a car than a chrome wheel with multi lug pattern.I still haven"t figured out why the Halibrands are so damn expensive.

Depends on what you're looking for I guess but there are tons of cool looking wheels that can be had for cheap if you look around. I scored a few sets this year already.

What wheels were you looking at that you're so upset about? The Ford pattern high clearance "divco" wheels and real magnesium Halibrands are the only ones that come to mind that pull $2K a pair, maybe those bent-spoke Kelsey Hayes 16" wires (I'm not real familiar with those)

Really, it's like saying that "old cars are too expensive" because 32 Ford bodies are hard to find and pricey. Look around, there's plenty of alternatives.

You can buy Cragar S/S in the 15x6 size brand new for $145 apiece from Summit. Probably could find a good used pair for around $200. Black steelies are just a junkyard away as well. I wouldn't say either of those are expensive.

  19. Usually can't hardly give them away unless they're perfect. I've bought pairs for $25 a shot before... and one show this year I kicked myself for not buying a really nice pair of American-type mags for $40 a shot... they were clean and nice and mis-marked as Mopar factory mags or something. They sold before the end of the day.

About the only wheel I had that was expensive was a single "Hollywood" mag (the type used on the '60s Green Hornet TV car) I unearthed in a junkyard a few years ago. That sold for something like $150.

So What are ya Looking For & What do you expect to pay ?

Im kinda on the other side of the fence, Ya See .............

Some of us have to Go Find these things, Pay for them, Store them at the House, Offer them For Sale, Box Them up & get them to the Buyer.

if I pay $40.00 for a wheel & have to do ALL the Footwork for those who just sit behind the Computer looking for parts, Would One expect for me to sell that same wheel to them for $40.00 ?

Just Sayin, So ... What are you looking For ?

i agree with the last post i always find rare wheels in junkyards most of you have never seen or heard of as well as at swapmeets across the country then im not trying to get rich just make a living and have fun doing it meeting other builders but i hear you talking too seriously if i was going to spend a $1000 it wouldn't be on a pair of bent or curbed halibrands

De soto sounds like you and I are on the same page.Aint made my mind up yet might just go with bigger front springs and a ball joint spacer or the axle.Low buck.Years ago 5400 springs and High jackers in the rear and ball joint spacers made for a good look, station wagon coils in the rear of chevelles worked good too. This old elcomino is a basket case the grand son laid down on.Guess I am going to have to put it together

Carlos, looks like we are due for a junkyard crawl as soon as the weather breaks! Reno's usually has a bunch of wheels, but you know how their prices are.I'll probably go by a friends shop in New Carlisle this week sometime, I'll see what he has and let ya know. about time to get back on the 36....give me a call. I'm getting bored again!

Just another reason to run reg. steel wheels, even those are more than ever before. As I have said before, IMO, mag wheels are for race cars!! ~sololobo~

the skinny 200's are stupid rare....i've been trying to "aquire" a pair for almost 18 years.....still sitting. those big window halibrands aren't being repop'd in aluminum or magnesium , so they are a what do want to give kinda deal....desoto mentioned the skinny lemans. those wheels were only made in 2 widths...4's and 6's. i can remember a time (not that long ago) when you couldn't give those things away....after the latest g***er revolution , those things are bringing 4 figures:eek:

little story , i bought a pair of early spindle mount 5 spokes from a guy back in 01ish....he told me he had enough magnesium wheels to sell , that it would pay for his willys build. brandon (former magnesium addict "pinhead926"...though i still steal a pair now and then....:D)
