ID this Petrol filler cap please.

    Can anyone ID this? I found this on the road today. It looks old and American, (though it could be Australian). Either which way, over here, it will be off a fellow enthusiast's car so it would be good to get it back to where it belongs.

    Once we know what it is off then it wont be too hard to track down the owner....NZ is a small place!!

    Locking gas caps would date from the '70s gas crunch'. Big rash of gas theft during the days of odd-even refueling! Within a year cars were sporting locking gas caps from the factory.

    It's really kool. I'd call it "retro gas lock" if I had to ID it. As far as what is it for real? No clue...
