There is a truck up the road from me that has got me thinking of maybe picking it up for some parts, but the truck doesn't make sense to me.

I believe it is a 1953 Ford F250. It is badged f250 on the side of the hood. It has a straight six. Body is pretty tender, but its all there. I'm thinking of purchasing it (if the price is right) for some parts.

Here is where it gets a bit confusing for me. Its got 5 lug 16" rims, shouldn't the f250 have the heavy duty rims? (8 lug?)

This truck also has a short bed, and the bed looks like an f150 bed, because most of the pictures i see of the f250 and up have a "stronger" looking work bed.

    Here are some pics:

I'll try to take some more pics tomorrow, showing the rims and bed.

I read somewhere that ford offered a "low GVWR" (Gross vehicle weight rating) could this be one of those trucks? It also said that it was rare to find one. So is this a rare truck?

Here is the info off the body tag:

    serial NO.
    *F10D3S14769*
    Max G.V.W. lbs
    4800
    W.B.
    110
    Cert. Net H.P.
    96
    At R.P.M
    3400
    Trans.
    4SYN
    Rear Axle
    3.92
    color
    B
    Production Code
    14G1186

Could this just be a f150 with an f250 hood?

and does the trans code mean that this is a 4 speed? and how were these? Could it work for a Hot Rod?

If anyone can help me with any of these many questions i would greatly appreciate it.

    Thanks,
    Josh

The trans code means it has a 4 speed, synchronized. It would make a slick hot rod, just don't chop an insane amount outta the pillars, none if possible. Looks solid, Nice truck.

  3. It's a F-100 by the serial number. And yes, it should have the T-98 4-speed...which is distinctly NOT a good performance trans.

The original engine was the 215 OHV six, and original color was Sheridan Blue; built in the Somerville, M***. plant.

BTW, the F-150 designation did not come along until much later...you have the F-100 (first year for that); before '53 it was F-1, going back to the late '40s.

    Thanks guys.

Homespun91 - Yea i dont know why i keep calling it an f150. So this means this truck is an f-100 that some one put an f-250 hood on?

And is the four speed not a good performance trans. because it is specifically built for work trucks?

So the parts that I would want from this truck would be the steering column, steering box, etc. and possibly the rims. Would you happen to know the width of these 16" rims?

I'll have to head back up there tomorrow and take a closer look at the parts I'm interested in. Thanks again.

Yep. F100 with F250 hood. All the sheet metal interchanges on the F100-F600 bodies, but watch the front fenders. (wheel wells are much larger on F250 and up)

Four speed has an incredibly low ratio, good for about 15 mph wide open. Yes, specifically built for work trucks.

Correct on the steering and linkage. Maybe also the pedals, definitely the brakes (backing plates with all parts, including drums)
Wheel width is 5.5", but have also seen 6". (3/4 ton?)

Thanks again guys. I'll have to try and get in touch with the guy, and see how much he wants for it.

Anybody want a '53 ford f-100 with some missing parts? haha
