I'm assuming your talking about speedweek. It's scheduled for August 22 2011.

I've never been personally but I would like to go, hopefully next august. I've booked rooms a year ahead in vegas and anaheim lots of times. Wendover would probably do it. I'm sure they have rooms already filling up for speedweek. At worst they'll give you a date when you can book early.

wendover hotels wont let you book that weekend, they will tell you janurary 1st, its a real cluster fuck. although, give it a shot... ya never know who is answering the phones.
if you dont get something jan 1st, a room will always pop up a week or two before the event... just make an effort to put the word out if thats the case.

regardless... if bonneville is on your bucket list id go with or without a room... once there you can probably get a room in person within 1-2 days.

expect to pay up to $180.00 /night.

OK, I'm confused, as usual. SCTA website calendar says Aug. 13-19, 2011. When is the real Bonneville Speed Week next year?

What you could do is join BNI. Then you would get the newsletter, a Poster, rule book, program, results and a pit pass. I think thats $60. The pit pass goes for $40 on the salt. And you would know the answer to this and other questions. You would have phone numbers for the Wendover motels and hotels. You would be a happy person.

The opening weekend is the best if you only have two days.

You WILL get Salt Fever, and you WILL be back... forget the Hotels, and join the Bend in the Road Gang. Set up your camp sight for free in a like minded community, just down the road from the truck stop on Highway 80. There they have Gas, Ice, Groceries, laundry, showers, and a diner. Down the road the other direction is the entrance to the Salt. Wendover is only 5 miles away. While you're there, don't forget to see the Historical airport, and museum. If camping is okay with you, but you want better accommodations than a dried silt flat ground, in the middle of nowhere, there is a KOA campgrounds in town, with lots to offer, including a much welcomed swimming pool.
The best nights to be at the State Line Casino parking lot for the big cruise night is Saturday, and Sunday, (keep your eyes peeled for Tex Smith, he's a regular) after that it starts to thin out as the week goes on. Those who can only be there for a few days seem to be there for the opening days. Plus as racers brake down, they tend to clear out, so the end of the week is a bit more quieted down.
If you're there when Speedweek starts, attend the Racers meeting in the morning at the starting line. Afterward they let anybody take their ride down the coarse just to see what it's like, and to say you done that.
Check my profile photo album to get an idea of what you're in for. See ya' on the Salt...

16. Rich, show me where on this site to do this please!? I would gladly do it.

Also, can you pre-order rulebooks for 2011? That site is clunky at best.

I don't know what has happened to the site. Clunky is a very polite word : - ) I was thinking of another word. The 2011 rule book is not out yet. Supposedly late Jan. or early Feb. You can call the SCTA office at 559-528-6279 and JoAnn will take care of you. I'm sure you could pre-order a rulebook and get a BNI application form.

the camping sounds great- we are taking a backpacking trip after that so car camping is a breeze. i assume you are on the roadside? any way to use a tent or is sleeping in the car the best bet? going to plan the opening weekend. booking the flight right now

Well the site worked fine for me, But I could find no place to join BNI on it. So the advice to phone or email Joann seems to be the only way. No worry about the rule book. They are being printed now and if you join now you will get one soon after SCTA gets them. Some people want more than one. Up to you. Welcome aboard.

Ah-ha. Seek and you shall find. Print this out and send it in. I am sure it will be good for 2011. $70.

Bring a tent and set up a base camp with the Bend in the Road Gang. They're a great bunch of people and your stuff will be safe. There usually are some Honey Buckets, but everything else you will need to either bring, or get at the truck stop store just up the road a couple miles. Google Map the flats, and you'll see the 1 road that turns off highway 80, that's where the truck stop is. The road goes 3 miles straight to the Bend in the Road, where it takes a 90 degree turn to the right, and heads out to the salt. Camping is on both sides of the Bend.

Caution, Bonneville is full of salt! It gets in your shorts and everything else! Try Loring Me. Instead (or both). No salt, just pure asphalt! It's 5 weeks sooner and probably a thousand miles closer to you.

(No salt but watch out for the moose)
