  1. They still mess up so bad in new movies like Cadillac Records.

And the Pinto in "One Flew Over the Cuckoo`s Nest"

  3. I have had two of my vehicles appear in two movies. One made for TV movie that was filmed in Colorado Springs years ago used my '41 pickup. They made me remove my baby moon hubcaps and then they sprayed the truck with somekind of soap mixture to make the truck appear dirty on one side as I drove it by the cameras and they also used it in a street scene where it was parked. Was an interesting few days, got paid a few bucks and a free lunch both days. Had to watch close to see the truck for about 2 seconds in the movie though.
I always try and catch them in a mistake using the wronge year car or truck. Did you ever notice how many cars they use are in perfect condition and most have whitewalls. Most cars back in the 40's and 50's had blackwall tires and were not perfect.

  4. Did just that the last time I watched the last Indiana Jones movie...especially during the motorcycle chase scene.

  5. I've been watching "Highway Patrol" on HULU.com for the cars. (Man, we're hopeless.) I nearly cried when they rolled a '55 Country Sedan like mine. Ouch!

I'm curious as to how the car involvement will play out when "On the Road" is done. It looks like a '49 Hudson will be used in the cross country trip by the main characters. I googled it the other day & it looks very interesting, car wise. Apparently, Brando owned the movie rights for a very long time (he had the idea of playing Dean Moriarty), but finally sold the rights to Coppola. Coppola sat on it for some time, but has finally started production. Check it out.

Several months ago I saw a black and white Frankie Avalon movie from the '50s in which L.A. had just been nuclear bombed so his family was escaping. The movie wasn't very good but the cars were ... although several of the cars kept driving through, as background.

I was watching the WWII in color series last night and saw what would have been a brand new '37 Lincoln Zephyr burning up in Shanghai.

I do this all the time. And it pisses my wife off especially when I point out cars that are newer then what the movie portrays.

I was watching "Psycho" the other day and got to the scene where one guy was distracting Norm while the sister was sneaking off to the house to talk to Norm's mother. Around the back of the motel in a pile of junk was sitting an old Ford. Immediately I think, " I wonder how much Norman would want for that."

ANS: Heck yes! Ever see 1958 "Tammy & the Bachelor"? Vintage MoPars out the wazoo! The early "Mike Hammer" TV reruns with Darrin McGavin are great, too. Chock-full of '50s cars! ON AND ON!

My wife refuses to watch any movie with me that has older cars or aircraft in it. I get all wrapped up in making sure the timeframes, descriptions, etc are accurate and IDing everything along with drooling over the vintage tin (and aluminum and fabric too).

don't fret over the cars in King Kong, i believe they were all CG and not the real deal... i pick on cars being the wrong year, too worn or too new, too many of one brand.... i like OLD movies over new ones because they at least couldn't get cars from the FUTURE and screw up...

tire squeal on dirt/gravel is one thing i absolutely hate.

another is the habit of vintage cars just being "driven"... as if they didn't have throttle and spark advance levers that had to be set, or clutches that required double-declutching, or non-synchro trans that nearly always made a racket going into gear..... turn signals on cars that NEVER had them in the modern context... radios in cars, when the price of a radio was often more than the price of a Model A or other base line car...

  17. About a year ago, I lucked into a Alfred Hitchcock film marathon on one of the TV channels. I saw the rest of North by Northwest, which has a few cars in it. One of the movies I watched that I had never seen before is Vertigo w/ Jimmy Stewart. That movie was tough to watch because it was chock full of street, road, and highway scenes with loads of 40's & 50's cars. I can't remember which element of the movie I enjoyed the most, the story itself or the glut of cars in it.

I'm still reeling over how badly that movie sucked! Historically, musically and car wise. I really didn't know they had that many 50s caddies in 1947:confused:.

Try the "Our Gang" and other Hal Roach studio comedies, especially the silents and early talkies for car makes that died with the Great Depression and are rarely seen today.

For Model T fans, look for the Laurel and Hardy classic, "Tit for Tat."
    And no breast jokes, please!

I had the pleasure of driving a real nice 34 Ford sedan as a Taxi in CINDERELLA MAN, the scene was in the late 20,s early 30,s. I pointed this error out to the powers to be, and was told to shut up and drive. A friend of mine owns the 34 Ford 3-W with the skirts and Woods lights also in the movie. Now my wife is pissed when I bring these flaws to her attention
as I carefully scrutinize every movie. ;)

My wife and I have been watching "The Streets of San Francisco" on DVD. It was made in 1972, and there are a lot of 1960's cars, but there are also a ton of cars from the 1950's and even the 1940's. We end up pausing the DVD whenever they have a scene in a parking lot just to look at the cars.

  22. Laurel & Hardy used some great Model T's but my favorite was when Hardy was trying to elope with his soon to be bride (who was as big as him) and Laurel had to bring a car for the three of them. He shows up in an Austin Bantom coupe and the three of them try to get in it...funny stuff that I still watch over & over :) It's A Mad Mad Mad World has some great cars in it and the chase shots were done for real with cars that would be worth a mint today:eek:

Here's one that's worth the rental or purchase price, IF you can find a copy! "Speedy" from 1929. Has Babe Ruth (for real) and Harold Lloyd.
