I have a 1968 Firebird "Sprint" OHC 6 with a 200 R4 0/d auto in a 1938 Pontiac 4 dr sedan, mounts fabbed. Seems to fit nicely but had to use electric fans. Original front end (w/605 PS box.) orig 4:10 rear end. I like it! 200 R4, with o/d seems to make low rear end very driveable.

Do have to add a yes to this, the only bad thing is no cams available for this engine that I know of. About 10 years ago a guy who worked for me had a nice tempest coupe with that engine in it, really cool. but he knew he had a bad cam and was unable to find one...Unless things have changed?

My first car was a 69 Firebird Sprint. 4.1L 250 with a Quadrajet and a Hurst 3 sp, with a 411 posi. that car was badass. 230HP. from a 250. I was beating Challengers with the 318 and put up a good race to the SBC's. I wrecked that car showing off for some girl, my buddy took her home after. NICE huh.
i think it would be an awesome engine for any Hotrod.

I've got one in my '52 Chevy pickup... my dad put it in there back in '78.

I know a decent amount about them and parts are somewhat available if you know where to look. There's an internet board specifically for them, I'll dig up the link later.

Pontiac OHC 6.....how many ya want???

A few years ago a friend of mine gave my godson a 55 Catalina coupe. When we got the car back to Ohio we started taking it apart. Going the street rod route I told him he ought to put a OHC 6 under the hood to be different.

So we started looking. I now have 8 of these motors. Two of them are Sprints. One original and one frankenstien. All were purchased through ebay or craigslist.

As for parts, Kanter has both cams and complete rebuild kits for the 230 and the 250 motors.
Jerry Woodland in Utah also carries parts for these motors he is at...

Another OHC 6 guru is Richard McDonough

As far as what to do with all those motors....well I have a 47 Pontiac four door that will lose it's flathead 6 to a OHC 6. A 67 Tempest that already has one but will get a Sprint. The 55 Catalina coupe and I am now looking at a 63 Ford Econoline pick up that needs a motor.

Not interested in selling any of my parts. One must have spares on hand you know.

Is it time for my nap???

Anyone know where I could get motor mounts for one? I'm looking to put it into a '39 chevy coupe. Thanks!

  12. Should use the same mounts as a Chevy 230/250, the two are a direct interchange IIRC.

  13. Great engine choice !!!....bolt up a 5speed box and have at it !!!

Have done alot with the OHC-C Ponch motor ! Ralph Turnburgs Lakes Roadster used one and we did a bunch of work to liven up that motor. Clifford Intake , Edlebrock Carb, Reground Camshaft, 6 into two Header and a four speed automatic ! Would burn the tires of the car ! Of course it only wieghs about 1500 lbs! And its the only one like it at any car show !

I had a 67 Sprint motor in my 37 Chev. cp.. It was a low mileage wreaking yard motor,
only 21,000 mi. . I paid less than $300.oo for it with gear box and drive line. I did have to shorten the water pump shaft and make some radiator mods to make it fit ,but its a natural for that swap. That engine looked good, ran like gang buster, and was dead reliable as long as I had it. I made many trips between Seattle and SoCal,Las vegas
and points along the way. Wish I could find that old Chevy again. It was last seen in south Tacoma in the late 80's early 90's.
If any has any information or leads to it please PM me.

    Thanks...................Jack

  17. ?

They haven't made an OHC-6 since 1969... that's before I was born. That's old enough school for me.

These were ok motors with wow factor when opening the hood.
I helped a friend try to keep his dad's 67 Tempest running after the warranty expired.
It had two cams replaced by the dealer before it expired. We put in a third after!
We finally swapped in a Chevy 6.

Don't have one, but would really like to find a Sprint OHC, 4 bbl. stick engine. I just bought a 41 Pontiac and it needs an engine.
