I am considering viewing a 1929 Marmon 68 3 window Coupe, it is available as a restorable barn find 85% complete, the timber frame is completely shot but the metalwork is in good condition for age. It has a straight 8 engine and gearbox. My problem is that I am unable to find very little information on this particular model although I understand something in the order of 22,000 were produced. Made in the year of The Wall Street Crash, with a starting price of under $1000 Any help with information, photos and links would be appreciated. Thanks guys
The 85% complete statement would scare me... Those cars are far and few between, and finding spare parts will be a nightmare. Even if you find parts, thet likely will be in the US, so shipping would be expensive. ....and a lot of sellers won't deal with it unless it can go in the USPS International Flat Rate carton which is not very big and limited to 20 or 25 LBS weight. What is missing beside wood pieces?
I am waiting on detailed info from the seller but understand the side mounts are missing, (what would those be?) the radiator cores missing apart from that its more or less there. There is no roof which I imagine would have been fabric over a wooden frame? Its standing 200 miles from me so can't get photos until after the break.
"sidemounts" refer to the side mounted spare tires which was an option. So, he could mean that only two wheels are missing, or worse yet, the fancy chrome clamps are missing or the entire bracket ***embly is missing. I have a 32 Nash that had the wrong sidemounted spare wheels...3 years later, I still can't find any. On the roof; as long as you had the visor, winshield posts and door tops, the rest can be made from wood with padding and fabric. Make sure the whole top and door tops were not cut off to look like a roadster.
The seller tells me there is only the wheels missing from the side mounts, windshield is complete, instrumentation is there, no alterations have been made to the body and is sound, not requiring any replacement panels, the engine and gearbox are complete but probably require work due to length of time standing. There is no seat frames or roof structure. There is no paperwork or do***ents what so ever. Think I'm going to have to take a look to see for myself. No ***le deed could be a big no no.
No good. Less then 50% Marmon. http://www.sedaliademocrat.com/articles/span-23213-style-font.html Now $6400 in UK, body, ch***is, and front axle. Gutted, thanks for your interest. I'm still looking for one to restore.
