I am building a new motor and have a SBC 350 30 over. I have a set of TRW pistons #L2252A. Also have a set of 76cc heads. My question is with this combo I come up with about a 10.25 compression ratio. Will that work with 92 octane gas with out destroying itself. Any ideas on who makes a good set of thick head gaskets too. I am trying to get the ratio down some. Thanks...

I don't have any pics, but I know with a 64cc head the compression ratio is about 11.85!! way too much I am hoping that the 76cc heads will work at about 10.25 with out rattling its self to death on todays gas.

So you got some big domes then??? You might want have those tops milled so you have around 1/4 inch of dome above the piston deck....

The head gaskets for the ever popular ZZ4 crate engine is .051 thick. That is a good head gasket. I have used them a good bit ... on 350's other than the ZZ series engines. And available @ the GM dealer :D :D

Thick head gaskets reduce the "quench" effect and often increase detonation despite the lowered comp. ratio. So you lose power and still have detonation in many cases.
Since I don't have a TRW catalog handy, the part # means nothing to me, but if it's 11.85 c.r. with 64cc heads, it must have a popup on the piston. The catalog should tell you the cc of the popup. Careful measurements should tell you whether the popup is hollow or solid. If it's solid you should be able to mill it off and get the compression down to a reasonable level.

    l2252 are -10.6 dome

zero decked and a .040 thick head gasket you are at 10.84....... .025 in the hole 10.2 With a large cam like 235+ duration @ .050 you will be close in a light car and low gears.

Don't play with thick gaskets due to loss of quench and detonation resistance. .025 in the hole and .040 HG is basically reducing effective quench to nothing so even at 10.2 CR you are likely to have issues. .With proper quench (.045) and 10.8 CR you are better off and making more power. 91-92 octane will be close but may need to take 2-3 degrees of timing out of it.
