Anybody have a good source for a low profile screw jack? Ca Cover advertises a nice screw jack for $180 - it lays very flat for getting it under the car and is easily stored in the car. Are there any other sources for such a jack?

    I don't carry a spare, so a jack won't do much good...:)

Would jack-**** fit in with all the smart *** answeres so far?

And old Tbird Dave knows how to make a AAA card smoke, ask him about Mojave.

I carry a small jack and jack stands (ya I take a stand too) I got at Kragen for like $29.00. it Barely fits under the car at its lowest point of frame to ground. I think if I had a flat and it settled any lower I would have some problems.

  9. I carry one from my Dakota that I s****ped. Liberty;s are lo also.
However I do have AAA and Good Sam road service and usually carry a can of spare tire. Visit the bone yard ans save about $160.

  10. Several years ago I read about an inflatable bag type of jack. Are they still around? My cars don't have this problem so I haven't paid attention.

  11. how low and what kind of car do you have???

my a coupe is lowered as much as you can pretty much in the front without frame mods and i can still fit a regular floor jack under it.

i did have a SLAMMED vw beetle (I just sold it) and no jack would fit. i went to the junk yard and got on of teh factory flat trunk jacks that newer cars have, 10 bucks and was about 2 inches tall.

I bought an electric scissor jack at Harbor Freight a couple of years ago and it works well under lowered vehicles. I have used a few times under the side frame of pretty low ones [my 46 coupe and a friends 40 tudor]. Can't recall the price but it came with both a power port connector and a two wire battery connector. I can't tell you the low/high measurements, but I could measure tommorow if you want.

mine sits on the ground, so a jacks isnt going to help much, I have raised a car with the air ride and lowered it down onto some bricks, I know it isnt safe but it worked
change a tire, I will second the s-10 jack.
FYI most of the junk yards are removing the jacks from junk cars, they tell me if some one uses "there" ( jack in junk car ) jack and gets hurt there liable, so they are removing them when the drain the fluids before they hit the yard.

A little salvage screw jack and AAA. You can get it all for $60. I also welded some flat plates to some screw jacks and they work great on the 2 wheeled p***ions also.

We had a fleet of 86 Big Buicks and Olds at work, for research purposes. They had a really good, low screwjack in the trunks, and came in a nice plastic box.
When they went off to be crushed, they didn't have jacks in the trunk any more!

Just Had a Flat yesterday, Going to Christmas, Ext Cab Silverado stuffed with presents and OH YEAH my 5 month old in the car seat. 30K on the Continental tires and lost one. Luckily we were close to a business and I asked if my wife could sit inside with my daughter while I changed it. Roadside ***istance said minimum of 60 min to show.
All went pretty smooth but 2006 truck 30K on 80K tires, at least it wasnt raining / snowing / night time etc.
I used to carry a space saver and scissor jack in the 69 camaro.

My frame hits the gound when my bags are let out so I carry some 2x4s at different lengths so I have something to pull up on to get a jack under it if needed. Have had to do it once now and worked pretty good if you ask me, just stacked three on top of each other and gave me enough room to stuff a jack under the frame.

I cary AAA premium and a 1.5 ton alumium compact floor jack. Its like the one at harbour freight. ITS works well. ALso if you have room carry a 2x6x10 board beveled on the ends . Get it under one of the wheels will give you a little more room. Happy motoring.

  26. Scissor Jack from whatever new car out of a junk yard $10, spare tire from the same place $ 50! The words that come out of your mouth when you get a flat - Priceless!

Wanted a jack and space saver spare for my O.T. mini tubbed 56. Low profile scissor jack is from a mid 90's Chevy truck that was being parted, jack had never been used. Welded a bent plate channel to the top of the jack to saddle the frame on the 56,[safety first;)] Works great, if I set the jack just right, both wheels on the same side of the car can be removed at the same time:). Best thing, it was all free! jack was given to me, and most of the used tire & wheel places around here give away space saver spares. I tried the local Pick A Part for a jack- no go, they told me jacks were to much liability so they were removed from the cars and not to be sold.

    Merry Christmas to all, John
