no, about two months ago there was a post here on cutting the centers out and rotating the outers and welding back together. I would not recomend that.
Might be missing something here, but I have those brakes on my '40 - same spindles as OPs '39 if it's stock. DTW - why do you say the centers need to be cut/welded? You'll have to clearance the spindles a bit for the brake hose but they do bolt on. The bearing numbers are available here somewhere. You have to mod the inner race of the inner bearing to fit the radius at the base of your spindles. Get the self-adjusting hardware from a newer truck (like a '65 Ford). Many of the wheel cylinders from that era fit, so you have a lot of bore sizes to choose from. Of course you know that it'll be 5x5.5 rather than wide 5. The front track width ended up real narrow with my aftermarket dropped axle, probably would be OK with one that's stock width.
yes you are -"rear" <input id="gwProxy" type="hidden"><!--Session data--><input onclick="jsCall();" id="jsProxy" type="hidden">
I recommend it as well as everyone else who has done it I have no idea what you mean by 'rotating the outers'.
The original post was Re 53-56 rear brakes. I answered that question. The 53 - 56 REAR BRAKES will not bolt onto my 1934 banjo. I run the 53 - 56 FRONT BRAKES on my Avatar. The recent post was about cutting the centers out of the rear backing plates and either welding the outers to the early backing plates or rotating the 56 outers to put the wheel cylinders at the top. I would not recommend doing either. If you were a machinest you might be able to machine a adaptor to go from the early axel mounting flange to the 53 - 56 REAR BACKING PLATES.
i'm a little lost too, are you (banjo) asking about trying to put f100 REAR brakes on a 1939 REAR banjo rearend or are trying to put f100 REAR brakes on the FRONT of a 1939 car/truck?
original post, putting 53-56 rear truck brakes, on a 39 banjo rear, done some checking, and found out its not a bolt on, but, there is an article in the archives on how to adapt early 90s f150s to banjo rear ends, think i'll just stick with the fronts, thanks for all the replys!
