Hi, I have just purchased a 1956 oldsmobile super 88 four door sedan. The engine runs but needs some attention which I will be doing gradually. Right now I need to change the engine oil and filter. Can anyone tell me what oil I should use, and what quantity the oil sump takes? Thanks
No shit, India? I bet 60 year old Oldsmobile parts are a bit tough to find! Probably can't go wrong with 10W-30 oil; I'd put in four quarts, start it up and let it run for a few miniutes, and then the engine off and check the level on the dipstick.
Welcome from Mount Airy, North Carolina in the good old USA. Presently watching it snow on Christmas. Hope you are doing well and enjoying your newly aquired American iron. Best wishes and good luck on your car.
india ??? Man , i just parted a 56 olds. I wondered what they did with them.holy crap..... i still got afew good parts .
I was in India 2 months ago for 3 weeks job. We had a cab driver who took part in Dragraces in Mumbai at night time... they mixed Indian petrol with DYNAMITE !! Engine made it a couple if races, then it was history, he explained. The guy bought old Royal Enfiled bikes and converted them to DIESEL and customized them, sold them with profit. Last place I ever though I shold go around to discuss dragracing was in Bangalore... As always, you'll never know where you will find someone with same intrests. I saw some old US trucks, but no cars. All were new small discusting cars.
Hi and welcome from Scotland. I used plain old Castrol GTX in a '62 Olds I had some years ago.Never had any problems. Not sure about the oil filter. If I can find out,I'll let you know. Mark.
