Patchy looking metal? Kind of a dumb question but I can't quite figure it out.

Plenty of guys on here that do great sheet metal fabrication, and I've seen shots of cars (in magazines) in bare metal with this same effect - but Cole was the only one I could think of on the HAMB that has posted shots of sheet metal with this look. Only other place I can think of offhand is the picture of the Bradley designed Ford with the hinged front skirts...know I've seen it elsewhere though.

So the question is: What are the splotchy patchy areas you see on the bare sheet metal? First thought is lead...but I didin't think that was used all that much anymore? Maybe it's just used more than I realize.

sounds to me like you are seeing lead.

I was surprised to see so much of it on the Cole built '36 in TRJ.

surprised in a good way. beautiful car, beautiful work.

You may also be seeing temper marks from a weld or other
    heat activity.

I use some lead, and shrinking wheel burnishes the metal a little too.

cole, what's your overall thoughts on the shrinking wheel? Do you use it often? I've read a lot of articles on how to use them but never really found any reviews.
