Great Thread! It reminds me of the 49 Olds fastback a friend of mine had in High School. It ran a fully sychroed 3 speed tranny with a Hurst shifter behind a J series 57' 371 engine with 2 AFB quads. It was really sharp & ran strong pulling a 4:11 gear behind. Wasn't worth a damn for gas mileage though. It was lucky to get 7 MPH on the street! By the time I got out of the Army in September of 68 it was laying on it's top in a local Scrap Yard with the entire drive train missing. What a shame.

    Craig Couris's 2 70 "W" cars - one hardtop, one ragtop!
The ragtop has the very rare all aluminum 455 engine and aluminum W-27 rear end center section.

NEVER did i receive any derogotary or "racist" type remarks about the car. In fact I have had numerous positive" comments from black people both at race tracks and at car shows --- even today with the re-created car. The answer/explanation is always the same from me -- "ITS WHITE - AND ITS POWERFUL" and thats all there is to it!!

Mother Skunk. I can't find an image, maybe Tman has one. 68 442 campaigned when it was new by Ron Thorsen. His brother still owns it and gets it out a couple times a year.

I finally managed to snag a photo of one our local heroes Multiple National Record holding Gregston & Teague Olds.
Archie allowed as how the photographers memory was incorrect as the best # for the car was a 13.25
Hopefully I can corner Norman Benson and get some more later.
