The yard I frequented near South Haven has closed.A yard with about 2500 vehicles...cars,tractor and even big trucks from the 30's to the 70's.The last time I was there in the fall, the owner told me that he was just tired of having 3 people show on a Saturday just to look around.I always bought something but looking back, never spent alot of money. The price of s**** and a family feud had made his decision to close.I had made a post for a HAMB gathering, and only one person was able to make it.A shame that it is gone.
I have heard of another yard in Muskegeon, but the owner is apparently quite rude and does not let you wander the yard.
I still call them junk yards....not salvage yards.I can see that one day we will have to rely on videos to remember what junk yards were all about.

  4. Was that Joes? We usta go there alot, back in the day...

    Sux that it closed.

Anyone ever been to the one on US23 down by the Ohio border? You can see some cool **** from the eway, but I've never been in it.

i always wonder if that is the one my dads friend used to talk about.he had this secret yard he would go to that had a ton of old cars.it has some barns and stuff with alot of hidden treasures like low mileage old vettes and bel airs and such.last time i heard about it,he went there to get a ***le for an old vette he built..

i also heard of one up in fruitport, that could be the one in muskegon you are talking about?

I am planning on going to the one in Milan (US23 south of Ann Arbor), soon. There is one up M24 by Mayville, Bob's Auto, he has some cool big trucks out front of the yard. A model T flat bed, pretty far gone, a dodge wrecker from the 30's some 39 fords, an awesome 30's ford farm truck with somethin special under the hood, a couple of fire trucks, a tank turret. I'm gonna go back when he's open and hopefully check out the inside of the yard.
I hope to find some more in my travels. I did find a few old cars in yards, one guy has two old panel vans, a 51 chevy, 54 chevy and a 40's farm truck in the woods but no one was home.

I've been in the one on 23. Outside of some trucks, not a whole lot there older than 55. And most of it is pretty far gone as far as rust.

    LEVIS ,,,,

There used to be one somewhere near your area ,, I did get to it once, but that was in the 80"s .. if I can remember you use to have to bring a few brews with , to get anything from them ..

Then there is the one west of Manceolna ,,, was there last summer ,, most everything is picked over ,,, the only thing I seen were some old buick fined drums .. dont know what else ...

There used to be a yard near Kalamazoo named "Doc's", reviewed once in Cars & Parts. Last I was there, in the late 80's, he was going to retire. I ***ume the stuff was cleared out. Lots of late-30's and newer.

It's all gone. I was there about three years ago a couple months before it was crushed, bought a truck load of stuff. Lots of 40's cars.

I have a nice yard near me here in Ohio, he still had stuff going back into the 20's. I am willing to take any one there, but I won't put where it is on the web. Contact me if you are interested.

I may be interested in going as well. Would love to see the yard and what it has in it, hopefully grab some parts. I will keep in touch on when may be a possible time to go, maybe make it a trip along with any other HAMBer who may want to go.

Any time guys. Spring is best, the weeds aren't too big yet. There is still a lot of good stuff there, even some useable sheet metal. A saturday around the end of april would be good, but they are only open til noon. We can get it organised, and I'll set up a meeting place near the yard.

  24. I'm in as well. Thanks for the tips on the others guys.

We still on for this? If so, I need an Email to get you directions, and an idea how many to expect. I'm trying to line up a second yard.
