So does anybody now of any aftermarket parts for the 390? like cam gears and what not... also how easy is it to bolt up a c4 instead of the ****per 2 speed... Any body have any thing for a 390 or a 62 ford country sedan wagon
You can get a lot of parts for 390s. Most FE stuff (352, 390, 406, 427) interchanges. Edelbrock even makes brand new aluminum heads. Gear drives, cams, intakes, headers, basic service parts - all available. I don't think C4s were ever offered with big block bellhousings. Your best bet is probably a C6 anyway, they're beefier.
The C-4 never was offered behind the FE block. They also never had a 2 speed auto. The first auto in 58 was a Cruzomatic, not a bad box for a tank but was a 3 speed and soon replaced by the C-6 that stayed behind it to the end. Stick shift stuff is not hard to find and a 4 speed is a lot more fun. The Wizzard
Yep I had a 61 galaxie with a 352 and 2 speed auto. U might have a 352 instead of 390, but u can do a lot with those too.
Performance Automatic makes an SFI-approved bell for FE to C4: http://www.performanceautomatic.com/profitsystem.htm
Pist-n-broke your may not be totally right about the 2 speed behind the FE. My 59 332 has a 2 speed (Fordamatic ??) behind it, as did almost every other 59 model sold in Australia.
You can get just about any part you want for the FE from the bigger speed part manafacturers like Eledebrock and Crane and Comp Cams and yadda, yadda. You can also get a lot of info from the FE forum. http://www.network54.com/Hide/Forum/74182 (FE Big Block Forum) I have a c-6 behind my 390. Had Been running great since 1990 till my sister wrecked the truck a few years ago.
my 59 has a transmission that acts as a 2 speed,if you leave it in drive and start off. pull it down one more click,(drive it in that position), and it shifts twice. give it a try. yes,my car has an FE engine,(332 ci.)
no it's definately a 2 speed. Didn't powerglides have some sort of split first gear like what your talking about?
