Greetings my fellow H.A.M.Bers! i just picked up a 53 chevy 210 for $800 with almost no body work needed, aside from a couple rust spots and a bad door, other than that, pretty darn straight, with no motor or trans or electrical,or tires etc. bare! and primered. however has all the trim and the cars O.G. can anyone point me in the right direction to where i can find cheaper replacement parts ex. brake system, fuse box kit with hardware, sheet metal, and really anything to keep the lettuce in my wallet, and can this be done? i just picked up a running 250ci and a 3 speed trans, they just need some freshening up to for 450 with a brand new shifter. any help would be awesome. thanks jay
Start coaming craigslist for Chevy parts. Post an add listing the parts you need on craigslist and in the HAMB want ads. People are always updating 1949-54 chevys and you should be able to find most of the parts you need cheap if you are willing to scrounge. My son is building a 1950 Chevy. To date he is into it about $600.00 with a running motor 1953 drive train, new tires, etc. We should have it on the road under $1500.00
like posted above 49-54 chevy parts pop up on here often and are interchangeable cept for sheet metal so keep an eye out. for the stuff u need to get new check out "chevsofthe40s" or "national chevy ***ociation" and "cars inc".
Networking with like-minded people is the best thing you could ever do. The HAMB is a good place to start. Finding a local group of gearheads would be even better. Jacksonville has a pretty good car scene, so it shouldn't be too difficult to make some friends. E-gay can be a good resource. Some of the other board, Chevytalk for example, can be helpfull as well. You could also try making friends with the local junk yard owner and/or employees.
