2x2 4bbl Conversion?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by HotRod28AR, Mar 3, 2005.

  1. I just checked out the 4 barrel carb to 2x2 conversion adaptors at www.vintagespeed.com. Has anyone here tried those before? Are there any problems running them and how would a 4x2 setup on a dual quad intake look? Thanks,

Deal w/ NW Speed on this product for sure. I have heard almost nothing but bad reviews from Vintage Speeds adapter. Bolt hole not lining up, bad casting flashing, etc. And suedesled is a HAMB'r!

They're cool, but have you looked for a regualr 4x2 intake yet? what motor are you running?

  5. Well actually I was thinking of putting it on my '59 since they never made a multi-2bbl intake for a Ford 429ci. I'd like to do something a little more vintage than just one 4bbl.

get one from seudsled at north west speed as stated, and I think they are about 10 bucks cheaper in price than them vintage speed ones

I debated this same thing for a good month mainly with myself and concluded ( with some HAMB knowledge) that i'd have to make up or buy some adaptors to run rochester carbs rather than them old 2 barrel holleys otherwise I'd be sacrificeing some power even though all I was going to use it on was a stock sbc 350

for now I just want to get things driveable and finish up the nessecities but perhaps next winter I'll take up the quest again:D

I haven't got the carbs yet but I do have the adaptors on the intake. Make sure you have enough room between carbs. Marty says you need 9 inches from center to center. I am going to have to make a spreader plate to get the 2 center carbs to clear each other.

I've got one of vintage speeds plates - there are some holes inboard I can't figure out. I am not sure how I am going to seal them off - I might seal them off by getting a different adapter

I had mocked up two 2x2 adapters on a tunnel ram too. I got 4 94s to fit if you run the adapters the opposite way(2 carbs one way 2 carbs the other) on a Edelbrock TRX1. My problem was that the top of the carbs were even with the top of my head  . Went with a 2x4 set-up instead.

  11. I'm glad I didn't buy the vintage speed piece..

How about their other products such as their rebuilt carbs?

How did you get the linkage to work?

I barrowed a 94 from Himmelberg to mock everything together and would you believe even with the breathers it all fits under my hood!?

I made a bell crank that connected the 2 pair of carbs.
