Talked to Ray & Rory Forbes out of Reno over the holidays and extended another invite to have them return with their amazing Cars. Congrats to Rory for making the cover of Rodders Journal . That roadster is perfect ! Fingers crossed. This is going to be the year for early V8's !
There are several clubs here in Sacramento that want to have their cars in the Autorama this year, both in the suede room and the regular show. We have heard that if two of the members register for the suede room the rest of the members may not be able to park together as a club. We have tried unsuccessfully for weeks to get confirmation from John Buck about this. Is the Autorama not setting aside spots for clubs this year?
Guess we know the answer to that one now Bruce.....I think it's a bunch of ********, not a very smart move on their part. I want nothing to do with this show now, and i'm sure a lot of other people feel the same.
This may require a road trip this year. I may have to see if the beater Caddy will make it down and back or die trying.
I already gave an answer. In fact, i give an answer every year - for the past few years. The response comes in person, over the phone, via email, and now again in a public forum. There are spaces for approx. 30 cars inside D tent. Thats it. The fairest way that John Buck and i can do this is to have a few cars from each club represent themselves in this building. Its the best way we can include everyone and make the majority happy. The following year those previous cars are replaced with yet a few more . It has worked this way at the GNRS and its worked this way in Sacramento. Only a couple Sacramento Autorama attendee's have complained year after year - no one else has a problem with it. What is it you would like us to do, stick your entire Car Club inside D tent and leave it at that? What kind of show would that be? What kind of display would that be? Where would the diversity be? As for the large Pavilion building that housed the Car Clubs last year. That will not be rented as it is simply not cost affective , was too much work to manage, and was pretty much empty of people all weekend. If your car club would like to raise $10,000 in order to rent the main Pavilion that certainly would be an option. Let me know and i'll gladly speak to you over the phone about that. Axle & John Buck
First of all, Let's not get into "diversity".....Traditional hot rods bring PLENTY of diversity, even as their own group. Last year's show was great, getting to see different cars, some home-built rods that deserve to be seen....but this year, obviously you're gonna go back to a show filled with typical high-dollar, polished-undercarriaged, tilt-on-a-mirrored 32 highboy roadsters and Camaros. I (and several other traditional hot-rodders) take this as prejudice, and somewhat of a personal slap in the face. Don't get me wrong, I understand that's what these nicer shows are about, I like lookin at everything from horseless carriages to muscle cars, I've been going to this show since I was in a stroller, but I'm not the one who brought "DIVERSITY" into this. According to our STAC leaders, nobody has been willing to discuss anything over the phone or in person until very recently. The traditional scene is M***IVE in the greater Sacramento area, and ******* all of thos people off is not very good for publicity. Nobody said anything about parking entire clubs in the D tent, obviously that's not feasable. Local clubs just wanted a chance to spend FIFTY DOLLARS or MORE to park their cars together in a public place, and get their names out there. I understand the cost effectiveness of it all, but leading people on, not being willing to speak with anyone about it, and waiting til less than a week before Registration's due is disrespectful. .....Funny how NOW you're willing to talk about it.
Ain't gonna happen for us this year..another country is calling our name that weekend unfortunetaly. I'm sure it'll be a killer though!!!
My phone number and email address have always been public and i am always available to talk . In fact i just received a phone call from Jay of the Poorboys / Road Lords about all of this and explained everything in detail - so i didn't find it necessary to talk about this all over again with his father. I also emailed Jay 2-3 weeks ago. Camaro's ? I have never had a Camaro inside any of the buildings i manage. For your info , a few people have indeed brought up the fact that they wanted to park their entire club inside D tent and again, that just isn't going to happen , and it is the reason i mention "diversity" - to allow each club that wants to participate a chance to put a few cars in the building each year. Simple and fair. The only solution if it is an absolute must for your club (or any other club) that has to have every car displayed together, is to participate in the outside Suede Drive-In which would be right outside D tent. Again, the main Pavilion building will not be made available, this is beyond my control, and quite frankly due to these economic times we live in, i totally understand and agree. At the end of the day the show will go on in D tent, bands and DJ's have been hired, vendors have paid for their spaces, and car spaces are almost full. Those that would like to participate are more than welcome, those that don't - we hope you'll change your mind in the future. Have a great day. Axle
We have our applications in and we as a club are going to work on the cars that are going to be in the building. Our cars are far from high dollar rides, we are just a bunch of friends that like working on custom cars. I know we will have a good time and the cars in our club that aren't parking in the Suede Pavilion will be parked outside for the Drive-In.
With all the drama, this is kind of like an episode of Glee without all the awful singing and dancing.
thanks axle, i found the application. do i need to specify thats where id like to be parked? i dont see anything about this on the app. thanks again.
It's easy for you guys to say that when you don't live in our city. This is our city, our cars, our people. It needs to be spread to the general public what's been done. It's a direct insult to MANY people. They're trying to filter out cars, clubs, and people that they don't "feel" belong in certain shows.......apparently cars that are "driven, belong outside" and "cars in clubs are poor quality". Common, really? You're so much better than us. Last time I checked, cars were made to be driven. Sorry we can't afford to pay someone $150K to build our cars for us.
axle , it is extremely clear that you can only do so much due to your limited inner space availability . After the gnrs half of us are breaking off, purchasing a 1958 Edsel wagon in jackson california then heading to sacramento where we would then love to register our car in your suede building. what are the proper procedures ? Keep up the hard work. there are many that appreciate the chance to see such amazing events. cheers, Roger
Axel, you've taken what I asked out of context. My post had nothing to do with you or the suede room. We all know what the rules are for the suede room and I didn't ask or even suggest that we park our whole club in the D tent. If that was unclear to you then I apologize. What I asked, and everyone else has tried to find out for months, was information on the club room and/or clubs being able to park together. The information about not using the Pavillion, and no club room this year, was not made public until a few days ago. THAT is the part of the Autorama that ****s. Were all of the clubs suppose to send in their registration to find out that they may be ****tered all over the show? Baggie, Don T. and Dan Cyr went out of their way to bring Car Clubs into the Autorama, Hell the last year Dan Cyr owned the show we had over 200 Club cars representing 24 local clubs. It's been car clubs that have supported and made the Autorama.
I live right down the hill from you.....you are totally off base with your argument. Let it go man, the show was total **** for years after Tognotti and before John Buck and Axle came along!
Whether it's a big deal to any of you doesn't matter to me. Thanks Bruce for clearing that up for them. I think everyone will soon realize who really is off-base and way out of line here.

this grey full fender was at vintage ford for a while and i think that thing is just the coolest! when i first saw it parked in their room i loved that car.
Still working on being there, looks like its gonna be a great show. And here's a novel idea...if you wanna park together, arrive together.
