Flathead Pulleys when you run a Magneto

Is there a special set of pulleys to fit when you run a Harman Collins Magneto? I have an 8BA that is running an earlytiming cover and wide belt water pumps but have not been able to find the right crankshaft pulley that allows the magneto to bolt up without fouling the crankshaft pulley. I am able to machine up a pulley but the rear sheave needs to be a lot smaller than the current one. Is there a problem with running a smaller crankshaft pulley on a flatty? Any help as I know there must have been others that have come accross the same problem. Any pictures of a setup with pulleys and magneto would really help. I have just started the final assembly of my build and would like to get the engine finished so I can finally fit it...

The smaller you 'machine' the crankshaft pulley, the faster your water pumps and generator will turn.
You defiantly dont want to spin the water pumps any faster than Ford originally designed them to spin.

Uh... I believe that would be just the opposite, wouldn't it?

Just a wild guess, but could it have something to due with the fact that this was made for a 59a? The 8BA waterpumps stick out about an inch farther than the 59a's. If your crank pulley was set back an inch would this solve your issues?

I have a 59a pump next to me and the inner pulley is only a 1/4" off the pump.

...Thanks for the input, are they wide belt type pulleys and from the back of the pump where it mounts to the block to the outer edge of the sheave (where the belt sits) is that approx 2-1/2 inches? If it is then I can machine up a crankshaft pulley to suit and using the 59a pump pulleys would get me out of trouble.

  8. That is a nice looking engine. Where did you get the shinny water pumps?

thats what i was thinking also...you have the center outlet heads anyway...unless im missing something just run 59a pumps and crank pulley plug the extra holes in the front of the block

....thanks to all who have replied to this post. I have used 2 59a pulleys and fitted them to the truck pumps these I have pressed back far enough to align with the alloy crankshaft pulley that I have machined to clear the magneto. Looks like it will all work and I get to use the wide belt. Now all I need to do is get the fan to work. While doing this I decided to polish the magneto and the intake manifold and a days work has worked wonders.
