I believe you need a battery, a charger doesn't work like the bat. You can have a dead battery and put the charger on that and it should work.
Maybe someone else can answer this better.

I have powered things with a charger on low amperage, I thought using the battery in conjunction to the battery charger was because the charger alone is not capable of producing enough amperage to start a car but something like a clock that only takes a few amps would be fine, mind you this experience is all 12v, 6v may be different,

Hook it to a battery, then disconnect it. It still should run for a couple minutes.

Car clocks are basically wind up clocks that use electric power to wind them. When you first hook it up, you might even hear the winder.

My experience with car clocks is that most of them have a lack of lubrication. I take them apart to get to the works and use a fine spray of oil (NOT to close) do not saturate them. Also the small contacts are usually tarnished and need cleaning. Usually you are good to go, after that. Iceman

I would just put 4 "AA" batteries in a row = 6 volts.+1 on oiling it too.

Would it matter if it's from a positive or negative ground car as to how he hooks up the test power?

Polarity shouldn't matter. The winding mechanism in virtually all of them is just an electromagnet that is energized for a few milliseconds every few minutes or so.

I wouldn't use a 9 volt battery. 8 Volt batteries screw up enough. Use a very light weight oil, with a fine wire at the bearing points. Might have to clean the contacts for the winding coil. The reason to oil just the bearing (or shafts) points, oil will collect dust. I have collected clocks and repaired them for years. Please don't ask for repair jobs. I quit years ago.

  16. hook it up to a wall socket.. it will let out the factory smoke, and it will work fine after that.. lol.. anyways... now a real answer.. the charger should be fine as long as it has a trickle charge setting as the clock will only draw the amps it needs. the more resistance in the coil for the motor the less amps it will draw. you can find an ohms law calculator on the internet to tell you what the clock will draw. but if you want to be safe.. use a lantern battery.
