Anyone know of any valve covers that look good on SBFs?

I know the typical Finned covers for like $80/pr in Speedway...

Then there's the typical old "Powered By Ford" finned covers.

What else is out there? I was really hoping to find some stamped steel covers that had a cool look to them, or some Lincoln/Mercury stamped covers...but I guess not.

    Show me what ya got...

I've always liked the plain stamped steel "Power By Ford" covers that were the norm on lots of '70s (other years too, I'm sure) FoMoCo products. A good coat of paint followed by highlighting the lettering in a contrasting color looks real good to my eyes.

I have been thinking of cutting out the Mercury and light'n bolt out of a FE valve cover and welding it on the stock SBF covers.
I do not know of any SBF covers with Merc on them, are any out there?

I've considered doing the same thing...but I'd like to save myself the trouble and find a cool looking pair that's already out there.

I think most of the mercurys with the small block fords had the "powered by ford" valve covers. At least the 302 I pulled out of a Mercury Montego did, but it could have been an earlier transplant.

Can't beat Edelbrock "Classics" or Moon finned cast aluminum or the very early `62-`64 stamped steel "pent roofed" style (which are available from any number of Mustang or `60's Ford suppliers).

As far as I know, there were no Mercury script sbf valve covers. You would have to make something.

Just keep checking ebay or swapmeets is about all you can do. Here are mine. '60s Keystones that I got on ebay. I like them because they are squared off and don't have that shape that is a dead giveaway for a normal sbf valve cover. I paid waaay too much money for them but I wanted them. Buddy of mine says they are junk and no one wants them, dime a dozen, etc etc, but I have never seen another pair anywhere. Because they are a strange casting with a big void on the bottom side, they tend to warp. That's fixable and some thick steel core gaskets will help too.

They were all shiny and pretty, but I have not taken care of them. I need to repolish them now.

I got these knock-off ones off E-bay for $60 and another $10 to ship. They wont clear roller rockers though. They are finned and similar to the Eldebrock but have a blank area where Eldebrock would be in script. The polish job is real nice and I am happy with them. But, if you use roller rockers, save yourself the headache and buy a set that will clear instead of the spacers!

Oh yeah, they look short cause of the intake I have, but their really the same height as stock stamped valve covers.

Depends on the look you're going for, but in the mid-'60s the Cobra valve covers made the mildest small block look hot.

the power by ford steel covers came in two flavors, one had it all inside a rectangle (351w) and there was also the ford oval steel covers. I like the aluminum fi covers wwith scalloped edges painted or polished. cut off the oil fill tube to suit and a push in oil fill cap..... cool

  17. See if you can locate some of the old EELCO covers that had fins and a pony cast into it.They were made for Mustangs way back in the mid 60s.Haven't seen any in years but if you know that they exist, you might could search some out. They always looked cool to me and are very rare.

  18. A different take on the Powered by Ford valve covers,,just painted instead of polished.

I was kinda looking for the old Cobra valve cover style except using with what I had to work with.HRP

I found some ancient Weiand finned aluminum ones for mine. The chromed steel covers from the early '60s factory dress up kit are cool too.

    Ooo, another OLD thread! :D

Here's what my motor looks like now. Actually it's not even the same motor. And I managed to find a second set of the Keystone Valve covers since then.

Vintage M/T painted with the fins [ribs] polished is a very nice look.

The "new" eelco sells a version of the "Hollywood Hoss" covers mentioned.
They have been made and sold by others too but the new ones are not quite an exact copy. The originals were made off a casting Eelco sold that had the Ford script in it, which is why the mustang is set in an oval shape. If you find a set beware many reprductions are of a soft pot metal alloy, which often cracks days after being on the engine.

Looking for some "Cool" Packard valve covers I decided this would be easier. Maybe you could do something like it but different. It's going to be hard to really wow your buddies with something from a catolog. But you might find some cool Merc emblems in a junk yard and bolt them to your valve covers.
